Seen the viddy on this one on Ekka's Site. Great moves in a tight spot. Just shows though, that taking your time and doing it right saves you paying your excess. Wonder what the customer thought if they were stood behind the glass. LOL. Can imagine.

Default Vertical Speedline

Eric, That is a very informational and well put together video as usual. Good Job.
That rope saved you some money and aggravation if that piece of palmtree would have gone inside the house and done some instant "remodeling".

Yeah, and that was Brother Colin on the camcorder, good job.

Maybe we can hire you as camera man when Jim gets here Colin and do some really cool videos ... you know the man's a NZ champion climber. Can footlock like 50' in 16 seconds or something. So we'll run around setting lines in palms and he'll clean them in no time .... spikeless.

Ekka has got some great video's on all aspects of getting the job done. I think he should be an instructor for the profession. Have you seen the DRT video with Colin demonstrating ascents? This guy knows a hell of alot and is well worth listening to.

Vertical speed line, a nice trick

One block almost smashed a window because I got lazy and didn't shorten the slack ... but it shows how it works in that thread.
What is your knot or hitch of choice at point of attachment on the free falling piece, Eric? I have taken to using bungees to secure the knot/hitch under some circumstances when there is no pressure to make sure it (knot/hitch) stays there.

Great vid. Yesterday I had a thornless locust that I could not set a spike in and had to really pound them in (without the footplates on). pita

Well, the rope that is tied to the section which is bombed out doesn't really take a lowering load but when the section hits the ground it can go anywhere ... meaning the rope could slip off I suppose. So a choking style knot is best.

All I did was twice around the section with a running bowline.... still some risk of it coming off.

What do you mean Bungee, like you use an Ocky strap or something?

Don't know what an ocky strap is (maybe it is a bungee) but a bungee is an elastic thin line that has a hook on both ends. Usually maybe 12" to 3' long.

I take a 12" and stretch it and secure it just outside of the pressure hitch/knot by wrapping it on the line and securing it to itself. That way the pressure knot will not back off and allow the piece to come unsecured if it flips or hits the trunk or bounces while loose.

Good job with the video. Too bad you can't secure the line in the middle of the tree so it can't drift out on the way down and take out a roof. (I guess you still got to hold onto it for that extra second when it comes off) It would definately help with a tree that has a lot of surface roots and is close to a structure.
