I took some video of extremely wide open faced notches on cocos palms, where the face would not shut before the piece lay on the ground. I did it to see if the fibres would break. They held strong all the way. Not surprising really if you have ever tried to tear a piece of cocos palm off. Also in that batch of videos on that post is where I slow motioned a pine with a pie cut all the way down, watching the fatter side of the hinge break first and slowly the breaking progresses closer to the scarf.

Update. I have added this video into the first post but also letting you know here. It's a model I built to prove this adjusted gun technique accurate.

Crikey that's amazing! ![]() I was tempted to create dozens of youtube accounts, and use them to post on your video, and have some of them taunt you. I DID post though, something about you being a godsend and how awesome you are and are you single, etc etc. |

I just found Mr Murphy's lastest video on felling a side leaner, featuring the "stick trick".. Since Mr Murphy has already posted in this thread I thought he would not mind me posting his latest work.

I can swing and steer trees,i've done it thousands of times, but i don't cut through the hinge as the trees falling,i use a combination of a dutchman and leaving the hinge thicker on the side i want the tree to swing towards, but also remember, dutchmans arent kosher, and its highly variable and daangerous swinging trees unless you know what your doing, murphy the way you showed that in you video is very dangerous practice.

Thanks .... it's a popular blog you have there, I get some idea with Google translate. ![]() Yes it's important the side rope is anchored at the same height/level as the hinge. I embedded your picture here to assist.
