Blood shit stick that's what it is ... this joints infested with them. I got a better hammer now but it doesn't pull nails out too good however the Stihl spanner does.

Nice job droping the palm,right where you wanted it!the only thing that concerned me and no doubt you had it covered was your blindspot with the fence,I mean you probably wouldn't have hit any one but you sure would have scared them to death droping that palm at their feet.berries from a ole to breakfeast time as my Dad would have said.Nice work mate.

Yeah, you can't see the sign and hats just around the corner of the fence.

You can see a few extra hats in the back of the ute though.

But I'll tell you a funny story ....

we were felling a palm onto the road one day, quiet little street and driveway opposite.

The palm frond tips would reach to no further than the centre of the road. So I got a spotter out there hanging around but I was wedging the palm over.

Now a young yuppie dude pulls up across the road but parks sort of across the driveway, windows down chatting to this young bird on the driveway. All is very quiet, back cut has been made (he didn't notice it much) and all I had to do was pound the wedge.

Anyway, he's got no idea of what's going on so I start pounding ... the tree slowly creaks and cracks and starts to go and I yell out to him "LOOK OUT!"

He turned and the look on his face, complete and utter fear, within a split second wooosh, he cops the air blast but the tree landed short and he realises. Gets out of the car pissing himself laughing like the rest of us. That look on his face was unbelievable, his bird thought it was great.

Funny how people are totally oblivious to danger or comprehending what's going on around them.

Got a very similar story over a year ago removing badly decayed mango tree from front fence of a kindy playground, fence next to front footpath and road just down from a T junction with traffic lights. The tree Tim took down from an EWP, till the stump was low enough for me to fell safely, quite a big stump with small stubs left from the lowest laterals. Do the scarf, and split back cut, wedges in and begin banging her over, just as she's falling the lights change and traffic begins turning left down the street next to the fence and mango. With perfect timing a small delivery van comes past driver day dreaming or thinking of the afternoons beer to be drunk (half his luck) when out of the corner of his eye he catches sight of the falling stick...I'd sighted it as neatly fitting onto the footpath with about 150mm projecting over into a parking lane which we'd barricaded earlier in the day.

The sight or rather corner of his eye sght of the falling stick scared the bejesus out of him causing the van to veer wildly over to the other side of the road....lucky nothing coming the other way, but I had a long cack about it,

the look of horror then fear

(wrong side of road) then embaressment,

pretty damn funny.

Here's the stick though you can't see the road.

Yes, it was identified as a tree requiring root crown inspection when I did a tree management plan for the School, two very small fruiting bodies of Ganoderma spp, when the root crown inspection was done well here's the photos;

After airknife excavation, hand saw easily pushed in to the hilt through one main buttress just below grade

A good look at the extensive root decay through three main buttress roots all holding (or rather not) against falling into the road under wind loading

Rent, took us a few attempts before we found the 180cfm size does what we need, though the guys I know in Brissy claim to be able to do the kinds of excavations that our knife won't do even with a much bigger compressor. Our knife is not factory built so that has a lot to do with it I'm sure.
