As i am thinkning about this,

one variable would be if you and the tree are at different altitudes. a provision would have to be accomodated.

That could be easily overlooked.

Up hill and down hill will make a difference, need flat ground.

So you could go sideways and step it out then transfer those steps up or downhill.

I also own a clinometer and that uses a level, it allows you to add or subtract additional length.

Good observation, what are ya a surveyor or summit?

Nope, just a Carpenter that deals w/ elevation changes. Oh and also i look out the corner of my eye all the time when other trades are on my jobsite.

Yeah it's great when the bets are on for beers on the spar fall, always remember to allow that tad for when the log comes off the stump and goes forward a little.

Nah, shot that out of the pic camera not the vid camera so was a bit screwy but message comes across.

That was around 6am before work, bloody sun comes up at 4.30am here in summer but we dont get daylight saving coz we're QUEENSLANDERS!
