As i am thinkning about this, one variable would be if you and the tree are at different altitudes. a provision would have to be accomodated. That could be easily overlooked. -Daryl

Up hill and down hill will make a difference, need flat ground. So you could go sideways and step it out then transfer those steps up or downhill. I also own a clinometer and that uses a level, it allows you to add or subtract additional length. Good observation, what are ya a surveyor or summit?

I make wagers with clients or "greenies" in my crews using the stick method while felling trees. $10 with in 2 feet.

Nah, shot that out of the pic camera not the vid camera so was a bit screwy but message comes across. That was around 6am before work, bloody sun comes up at 4.30am here in summer but we dont get daylight saving coz we're QUEENSLANDERS!
