Hey all, Well what a day, spent all day spiking up 40-50m Sydney Blue Gums reducing them away from the 330kv High Voltage Lines. Got a small 1 minute video shot from my phone topping out a 40m gum tree head at half way, was a fun ride ![]() P.S Eric, I would have absolutely loved to have your power ascender today aswell as tomorrow! I'll be taking my helmet cam tomorrow to get some phenomenal footage of these giants going over.

I know the yanks and canucks log that huge stuff, but they have more of it growing to be logged... Not really a lot of tall trees through out the Sydney metro area, so it was big - way bigger then usual.

Hey Cody, I went through Olds about five years ago. Why bore cut if you don't have to? They seemed to be gettin er done. All techniques have a specific application, you need a big bag of tricks. Two students did coast logging climbing for their practicum the year before me. Ask Laurie about that. Tough crowd (hard drugs)out there though. I wouldn't recomend it, if you have an urban job lined up. Good video eh?

A better question would be why just climb with a lanyard and no rope. At least he could of pulled that heavy saw up rather than gaff it up 200 feet, then rappel down rather than spur down, which sucks. Funny loggers are still doing it the way they did years ago. Someone could make some money training proper climbing to loggers.

If yours as good as they are on spikes you would not worry bout a rope and I think its quick taken the saw up with you then pullin it up every time, and i dont think they have some1 on the ground to clear stuck rope or hook saws on.

The climber could tie the saw on before heading up and leave it at the base. Between that and rappeling down the energy saved could allow him to get an extra tree by the end of the day. Not only easier but faster, and best yet safer. Just lack of knowledge and proper equipment plus the peer pressure in camp to be a real logger.
