Neat looking job Tim. How long was the top you dropped, and how long was the line from the tree top to the lawn? Looks like you were standing 70-80 feet up for the branches, the top above. And traffic control must have had some scary moments -- there always seems to be at least one driver who just doesn't believe he/she has to wait. |

No traffic control required there I don't think, he had a wall between the tree and road. Just a few spooked drivers going underneath but most wouldn't have even noticed it. ![]() Bit gay with all that hand sawing.

You know, over many years of tree work I have pretty much seen them all. And when I see a climber turn up to a take down with his handsaw I know they haven't heard of .

Actually Ekka, I hired a climber this spring to do some work for me, and he preferred a handsaw to a chainsaw - less risk, less weight -- and lol all the cardiovascular workout with every limb.

Thats only because they dont have Eucalyptus crebra or Acacia auriculiformis, if they did they wouldn't even consider going up a tree without a sharp ms200t ![]() I work with a scot i think if he wore a kilt to climb it would be pine cones in a big shot moment.

Ok...I saw one hand sawing use, and the rigging hit his hand saw, so if it was a chainsaw the rigging would have been cut. |

You cant say that because you change techniques according to circumstances, he may have used the handsaw knowing that was a possibility, or he could have changed his technique to accommodate a chainsaw. ![]() As I always use a chainsaw I always consider the rigging and technique.

| ![]() thanks for the comments people, havent you guys heard of the ancient chinese proverb attributed to Confucious... 'he who climbs trees without a handsaw is profoundly lacking intelligence' or the ancient greek saying, 'a man without a handsaw is the king of halfwits' I agree with both the above as do most serious climbers Last edited by Tim Craig; 31st August 2010 at 03:03 AM. |

I say good on ya for the hand sawing I use mine alot for smaller branches, is alot quicker than a chainsaw on the small stuff and a good silky cuts through anything fast |
