LIke rock climbers and cavers you can descend SRT (single rope) without your hitch binding up.

Ekka, The way you tie your repell line, are you threading the whole line through the midline knot you tied to come down on your 8 to make it retreivable? Wouldn't a midline knot and a steel biner girth hitched be quicker than threading the tail of the other line through? Or am I missing something? Around time 2:03-2:05 Thanks, Brendon |

Weicome brendon if you look you will see that he unclips the eight from his carabiner and threads the eight midline.

im not talking about the 8. I know how to use one. I am talking about how he has 2 tails of the climbing line, one for the retreival, and one for the repell.

Yes, you can tie a figure 8 knot with short loop and stick a biner in it. The old Petzel magazine/catalogue had this toward the front but I think they removed it. Perhaps 2 reasons they removed it, one is biner cross loading freaks getting up them and two is they showed it on a straigh parallel pole (similar to palms) but of course no notch and maybe, just maybe some-one fell. You see, you rely on weight cinching the two ropes together via the biner. But it could happen that during your descent or whatever if weight is taken off the system the whole thing slides down. I do that too on long really long ones but always notch the spar, I use a 50kn Kong screwgate for that, but dont show it coz some idiot will fall and blame me plus all those cross loaded biner wankers will be foaming at the mouth. ![]() I suppose you could use anything though, a strong clevis shackle etc.

Cool vid that Ekka. Good tune too. After working in that heat is it ok to jump in the customer`s pool ? Or would that be frowned upon ?

Just a thought Ekka...why do you use the figure 8 descender over an in line descender? Is there a specific reason or just personal preference? Cheers |

Nice video, Ekka... and uhm... I'd sure like to be her voodoo child... I'd prefer a grigri though...But then again we don't have anything here with such a smooth bark... |

Hey Eka, I use that techq. whenever i clean a palm using hooks. Spike my way up, then repel down. but i side load a beaner, cleaning a palm, not a takedown. Cann't cut a notch in palm not tagged for takedown. |

Just tie it with a long tail but you can do the biner idea too, however I'd suggest over kill on the biner, I use a 50Kn one, steel.

Seen the video again I just realized that you prepare the system in land before rising. Thanks for a new learning. |
