Thumbs up NSW largest tree by volume| Bird Tree

The largest tree by volume in NSW is called The Bird Tree, nearby is another called Big Fella.

Both are on this video.

Thanks Eric, what type of trees are they as I assume 'Big Bird' and 'Big Fella' are nicknames? Great bark texture and I love the gnarly shapes at the top.As you can see by my paintings I LOVE that in ancient trees. Thanks also for your feedback...we need to work more on our Creative Native website. You know how it is when you are juggling so many things.....Fran
PS I will have to figure out how to reach others on this site in other parts of the world to find out about their trees. Posting threads etc is new to me. Fran

They are eucalyptus trees common name blackbutt .... botanical name is Eucalyptus pilularis

It's on Derek's register with all the numbers of it's size, almost 4m DBH.

It must smell wonderful too....I wouldn't have known it was a Eucalytus from the trunk. I only know the eucalytus that is in California, native or non-native I do not know.....

How many m3 do you think this bird tree is?

It is big, but not by NZ standards. Our largest tree is only 51.2m in height. Has a 13.77m girth . The trunk volume alone is 250m3. And is 2500 +/- years old. Amazing for little ol' NZ.

I must get to NZ with our Creative-Native Project. Those two trees would be magnificent and challenging to capture in my painting.
Thanks!
