Did this job yesterday, just taking care of business. ![]() Chipped the lot, log and all, but had to rip the log up to get it in the 18" chipper, was a big one and heavy! Steve climbed it. Around 5 mins and 25mb WMV www.palmtreeservices.com.au/video/tallowood.wmv

I'll keep it in mind, just gets to that time of the day where loading log and grinding the stump means payday so tend to get on with it.

Once again GREAT vid Ekka! I noticed that one of the branches had made contact w/ the roof of the building. (Also notice your superior skill in synching up the cymbal crash and the impact on the roof!! LOL) Was there any sustained damage to the roof? What type of roofing material was on the roof? What knots were used to tie your "catch rope" to prevent a run away log? Thanks -Daryl

Roof was tiled and no gutter/capping that could have been damaged by the tips. I called that shot from the ground and asked the climber to cut it like that so we could sweep the roof with the tips ... there was debri stuck there (not from us) but we never got it. You cannot do that with gutters!

Good stuff as usuall, Eric, I also was hoping that the canopy of the section that impacted the roof cushioned it. Good ground work also I like the deflectors you had in place for run-a-ways, Sometimes the bigger they are the harder to get falling...but training came thru.. and over she went with a great echoey thud!! ![]() JayD ![]() ![]()

Nice video. Just wondering, why use steel wedges instead of plastic felling wedges? Isn't it possible to hit the steel wedge with the saw and damage the chain or is this a myth created by the guy selling the plastic wedges? |

I think the wedges would be aluminium, yes they do dull the edge of your chain but nothing that can't be quickly filed out...unless you try to cut the darn things in half! |

Out trees here tend to be rather tall for the diameter. Many eucs for example push up around 50 x DBH or more for taper, that mean a 1m DBH tree can be 50m tall. Palms same. So I searched for wedges that had more ramp to them and found these. Speaking about that I need to source them again, was like finding a needle in the haystack.

Just viewed this video again and was wondering if you used a false crotch or natural crotch for your rigging line in the beginning when you were removing limbs? I see that the groundies were simply holding the rigging line and was curious as to how this was rigged to keep the groundies from flying into the air?

Lowering block up top, port-a-wrap at base.

| I was wondering about the limb that brushed the roof. It appears that the groundies are simply holding the line. Is that a judgment call? Not using the port-a-wrap I mean? Or did I simply miss something? Just trying to learn from the pros how to properly rig and lowers limbs. |

Ah, OK, that one. We had 2 of us on the lowering line, block up top. Reasoning is we could try to lift the branch up to lessen the sweep on the roof as it was swinging.
