Sorry guys, but I had to laugh myself stupid over that one. Thankfully, the dood was ok. Given the angle of the stem and the sheer weight that he was cutting off, his ass should have told him what was going to happen. Had he tied off using a more appropriate rope and lowered the top down, there would not have been too much spring in the remaining stem. He will remember that one for a long time to come.

Just another sarcastic quote from me though, and that's not usual from me, the commentator said that Steve was a professional tree trimmer; how then did he hit the boat that was in the yard?...........

professionaly stupid. hmmm lets cut off 1/3 of the stem...give it 15 feet of slack.....bring it to an abrupt stop....try to hold on...and see what happens.

Yeah seen that before and had some diagrams about it.

A better way would have been to have a primary lowering point in the main stem and a secondary off the leader he was on ... 2 pulleys.

He was lucky and sore I bet.

I just remembered, a few years ago, I was snedding a large Ash, from what I do remember, it was about 40"DBH, and I was walking backwards on the limbs when the fugger decided to roll. Didn't see that one coming either, the flight was good though

The ride wan't why I said smaller I said it because that looked like awful close quarters.Heck sometimes I purposly make the trunk shake to keep it going.[impressess home owners and usually when I do tree work the peoples neighbors come over and watch.]My dad usually keeps them outta the way unless its a small td that i can handle myself in that case I'm usually coming down to keep them outta the dropzone.
