But never ever wrap the rope around your hand or body, also if you are the climber never grip it in your teeth. Some guy lost a gob full of teeth when the rope was yanked quickly.

i heard a story from clearwater, fla once about a guy redierecting his climbline around his arm while cutting and when the limb fell it caught his rope and dislocated his shoulder. The only time i got teeth on a rope is when adjust my flipline.sometimes it needs to be done.

When the adjustment knot[vt or tautline are what i use]gets tight i sometimes have to grab the tail of the flipline with my teeth so both hands can adjust the knot.

ah dude! sounds like your a product of the latest fad. vt is a very good knot, but only under specific circumstances. rope diameters and turns and tresses and such determine the performance of the knot. if you gotta use your teeth to loosen a vt your doing something wrong. i use 10mm beeline (technora fibre) prussick with three turns and four tresses, always criss crossing the ends, on a 12mm samson rope.

gibbs are good but you cant loosen while loaded which is a pain in the arse. having said that i havent bothered to take it off my pole belt!

oh yeah and ekka, like that vid of the ascension methods. liked the look of the gibbs setup. too much gear for me but the idea is good. trunk walking is the only way to fly, gotta save energy anywhere you can. ekka looks like hes perfected energy saving techs. jokes

what diameters are we talking here? micro pulley back up? prussik cord fibre? all plays a part. you should def be able to make that knot realease under tension.

so i spose thats 18mm and 11mm? 18mm is a big line! why do you use such a large line? must be pretty heavy. no wonder its binding up as well. you'd need a 12mm or 1/2' prussick line. is that right? what you running at the moment?

ah three strand, old school. maybe its a clue to upgrade. try 1/2inch diameter in the mean time. let me know how it goes.

I like 3 strand lanyards, easier to flip or do the west coast wave on larger trees. It also comes in handy as a short climb line for traversing.
