I have just seen this amazing video, and I simply have to share it with you even if there is no tree climbing there. On the other hand, climbing in electric wires 600 metres above the fjord isn't bad either. And the climber is a young man at only 59 years.... It is about how the fjords were created, by the ice during thousands of years. A scientist visites even Greenland to study this process. You won't understand the talking, unless a few scenes with tourists speaking English. But enjoy the scenery and views, the people and their work and occupation, fruit, sider, goat cheese and much more. Fruit festival with cherry stone spitting competition. You'll need an hour. I have never seen a video like this. I hope the link will work this time. Video Link Leif. |

Well, worked a few days ago. But we cant read what it's saying! Maybe it's out of bandwidth or something. LeifR, please tell us what that 15 second intro video is saying.

I am not sure if we get the same window, but mine tells about capasity problems, try later. There may also be some copyright limitations for IP adresses abroad. But if it worked earlier, this last possibility is perhaps not likely. Try this: NRK (Norwegian national broadcasting) Choose NETT-TV/PROGRAM In the alphabet above choose U Menu left, choose Ut i naturen (Out in the nature) Next window choose 2009, then you'll find Fjorden Hope this will work. Leif. |

I have sent a mail to the Norwegian Broadcasting and asked about this problem. They confirm that it shall be possible to watch these videos from abroad. They have no idea why the link doesn't work. The link in my first post doesn't work for me either, but the next one does (nrk). It may be possible to type nrk.no in the adress line, and then follow instructions in my last post. Leif. |

Great movie. I wonder how those people survive the isolation of a long winter. It seems awful lonely there.

Lonely, that depends. Some scenes are from Greenland, the biggest island in the world. I have never been there, but I guess it is a lonely place. About 57.000 peole live there. But people have been living there for at least one thousand years, so in one way or other, they make it. The main section in the video is from the Sognefjord, the longest and most spectacular fjord in Norway. I think it is the deepest one in the world too. That is one of the themes in the video. Along this fjord there are a lot of lonely places, but also many small centres where people live. Most of them have road connection, but some roads may be closed for periods in the winter. One place (Flam) has railway as well. It is a side track of the main railroad between the two biggest cities in Norway, Oslo and Bergen. In summer time thousands of tourists enjoy the spectacular railroad to Flam. My links have worked badly so far, but I'll try once more with a link to the railroad. Flåmsbana Most of the really lonely places along the fjords are now empty of people, at least in the winter. But in some of them a few (or one) persons still are living. Some young ones are even moving back. They say, have you been born or have your roots in such a place you'll never forget it. Our broadcasting has made a series of programs about people who are living in lonely places "Where no one might believe that anyone could live." (The title) You may use the link in Gunslingers post, then you'll come to Net-tv. Choose D in the alphabet above. In the menus you will find "Der ingen skulle tru at nokon kunne bu". There are several years production of these programs. I have some suggestions to find stories from places like those ones we are talking about. 2009: Storfjorden (Big fjord) Kirkefjorden (Church fjord) Norhern Noway. A bit different landscape. 2008: Kjepso. Small farm on a ledge high above the sea. Maren 2007: Stadtlandet. The most unsheltered place in the whole country. In this video there is a section of some minutes where a man tells a breath-taking rescue story from a storm 20 years ago. That storm was really bad. You wo'nt understand the talking, but have a look, though. Leif. Last edited by LeifR; 30th March 2009 at 03:45 AM. |

I was able to follow all the links, but when I click on the last one, "Fjorden" I get the following message; For å se video i NRK Nett-TV må du har en båndbredde på minst 375 kbit/s. Gå til innstillinger, hvis du vil prøve å endre målt hastighet manuelt. Presumably it says something about bandwidth/ speed, even thou I have a high speed connection (cable). Too bad, I would have liked to watch the vid. |

You are right, it is about bandwidth. You need at least 375 kbit/s. If necssary you may change bandwidth manually, but I do not know how you do that. Leif. |
