| Hahaha hey Ekka did you put that micro pulley on ya harness just for the photo or what? Im going to go a bit with both sides on this, i have heard of a good mate who just about got lifted off the top of a spar when he was craning a big section off, over cut and didnt realise until he was being hoisted up with the section because the saw was stuck in it. I reckon a saw breakaway is important but it has to hold a 020 being dropped from less than half a meter. Those aussie chainsaw strops like Ekkas got are the best i have ever used, real good stretchy cord and plenty long enough. ![]()

| Thirty five years ago when I started climbing I used a j-hook to hang my Mini Mac 6. Of course, no lanyards back then. The j-hook was made from a galvanized strap that slips into the ends of chainlink fences to tension the fabric to the corner posts. Very few new ideas---lots of rediscovery. |

It's just as simple as the first hook...What else could we do to make this a better tool? Add your answers here and lets see what we come up with. ![]() ![]() ![]() | |

Ah HA! So it drops on easy and lifts on easy without having to open gates like a biner it needs a small barb on the inside. This way if you were to invert or go sideways it wont easily slip out but likely get caught on the barb. ![]() However at the same time if you grab the saw and lift it for use a jiggle etc should get it out no worries. The barb only needs to protrude the thickness of the ring on the lanyard, maybe 6mm will do it, and on a downward angle just like a fishing hook.

Come on have a go, let's see how we can make this ole tool heaps better.Have you observed something while climbing,Something that would help you in control your saw, make it easier to use...more versitile? I challenge you to come forward and add your idea. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Or, somehow mount the hook to the saw and have a big ring mounted on the harness. Other than those two ideas, i'm fresh out. Fill us in JD, the suspense is killing me. ![]()

| Oi thats a good idea Ekka! Im not down on the hook simply because there is a chance the saw could come out but i think a bit of a blunt barb would be great.

| Other problems with the hook are ... 1/ The lanyard gets/sits in it, making it hard to drop the ring on when there's the bungee there, so some rubbers on the bungee/strop to keep the ring clear. 2/ sometimes when you pick the saw up the ring goes up the inside of the hook and you aint getting the saw out, so a little vierticle piece down the bottom would prevent that. That's it, I'm outta ideas for now, spill the beans Dee's ![]()

| Hi Folks, When you look at this simple tool it's just that! In saying that how do we mod it/improve some what. Ekka suggested a small hook to stop the saw from falling off, Very basic idea but still a good one so we add a hook. My idea is also just as simple as the first, We make it out of aluminium, A minor gain but still a gain/mod. Also I have noticed the the hook could be angled back slightly to give better positioning for the saw as it sits off the harness,This would help keep it more to the side and out of the way. I hope this helps you blokes and I will be changing John's hook to this shortly and I will post pictures for you all to see. So you see mods dont have to be Einstien type mods to be good. Simple ideas,The one's that make life a little easier up in the Tree's are are just as good as complex one's. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Ahhh... Aluminium, of course. That would be safer too JD If a branch or something caught it, it would bend easily instead of ripping the ass out of your saddle.
