A relatively unimpressive horse chesnut, (another victim of bleeding canker) but with lots of branches. Underneath was not only paved but also had a glass/green-house just a meter or so away which we did our best to cover with rubber mats’. All but the last 3 sections had to be carefully lowered and manouevred. An addition pull rope looks to be missing but the guys would have had to be stood at least in the middle of the road each time in order to gain sufficient leverage….for that reason they managed without. Thankfully we were able to slide out a couple of fence panels enabling us to drag the branches straight onto the road. Nice weather, straight-forward rigging. Nick and Patrick on the road, Leonie is working the ropes. Part 1 Part 2 |

Clean and professional operation, composing of movie also excellent. ![]() What kind of a device did you use to push of the large block? Never seen that before. You say the tree had the bleeding cancerdisease. This was also visible in some of the pictures. The condition wasn't that bad from my point of view, behind the monitor of the pc that is. Were there additional problems such as fungi?? You know the disease can slow down and trees can regain some health with the bleeding cancer disease. So please don't take every infected chesnut down. In Holland over 40% are infected now a days. |

Great avatar Willem....would you be so kind as to post attach a bigger version as Id like to geta closer look. The chestnuts here are not doing as well....most, after cracking all over the place and then die back. This one was condemmed by the council because of its close proximetry to the road which carried lots of school traffic. Forest Research - Bleeding Canker of Horse Chestnut Newguy, what part of the vid did you see the knot? Most, as I recall were either finished whith a running bowline or timberhitch, although some of the TH had a stopper on them.

Hello RC1, Look in this thread here are a lot of pics of tranplants including my avatar. Large tree transplants In Holland they have a goverement reasearch agency only for this disease. I've put up a link to their site here. Kastanjeziekte - werkgroep Aesculaap If you come across more info about this disease in your country, let me know. |

Amazing work Willem, ![]() Newguy, I can only assume you were refering to this knot (attached) That was to hold it all together in the event that leonie were to misjudge and overwrap the lowering line....in which case the branch that I finished with the timberhitch might have broke off upon slamming into the spar. Chestnut is brittle, you always have to consider the what if's ![]() As it were, she judged it perfectly! |

Nope,it was set like a clove hitch, but instead of tying two half hitches, you finshed it with wraps like a timber hitch.

Just watched bot Reg, very nice. At 5.30 into the first video just as well the rubber mats were on the glass house, the scarf you cut flew off and bounced right off the top of it. ![]() I wonder how many of us have had the scarf piece fall and bust something?

Great videos Reg! Lol every time you rigged it from the middle I crinched and really thought it was gunna come back at you, then I kept seeing you swinging it off the other leader - beautifully done mate Quote:
Lol, I watch where they go all day, but I don't get concerned where they land. That is the groundies job to play goaly ![]() Funny you mention it though, just thinking back now I can't recall hitting anything but the next door neighbours dog. Lol. You cut them all day long, but you only ever see like 1/3 of them on the ground when you get down.

no, you called it Reg, careful when finishing with the bottom cut, I had one zip out from me... it almost tagged a window. I got lucky and still learned a lesson. I tend to cut so the saw dust flys away from me too! ![]() Clean work one of my favorites.
