I fixed it!

I cut a groove through the centre of the end of the spindle with a hacksaw & held it with a flat screwdriver whilst I tightened it up. All's well that ends well

I had one similar, Oregon, cost like $400
I think Efco also have one.

$40 is way cheapo

That's called monkey cunning..funny that ! There's heaps of ways around bugger ups your just got to think about it...
