Hey Allmark,
Cool bananas, reminds me of when I was in heavy industry, Ive built trucks, rock breaking excavator buckets so big you could park a car in,and special one off's for the mines around Australia, but that was a life time ago,now my passion is Arboriculture.

We used to build trucks to car standards (finnish) All by elect arc, stick, I couldn't tell you how many times I blisstered my knuckles laying down welds over 450 amps..Now I weld for me and mine

One pretty truck! Allmark how comes you never went with an ''off the shelf'' crane such as a Hi-ab, Atlas, Palfinger, Fassi etc?

Great soundtrack by the way..

Effer has a better power to weight ratio for where my lifts are. The boom is built from 1 piece of steel w/ 1 weld full length inside and out. I liked the design of the knuckles and other components. I felt they are stronger aand more durable. The manufactureing plant was impressive too.
They have a proven track record w/ the remote(available on the others too).
Past customers of Smith crane gave good reccommedations and history w/them. I worked with a couple tree companies that had them and tried a couple others out.

Mine cost 4 TIMES what i paid for my house (11 yrs. ago)!!! My first knuckleboom cost 115000! That was 10 yrs ago. After i bought i went through "buyers remorse" until i took it onto it's first job! Then i remembered why i was looking for something that could the stuff it does. Congrat's Allmark you're gonna' love it. I looked at many different brands and the Effer brand had the most experience w/ lg cranes & by far, the best: power to weight to reach ratio! Effer makes a 220 t/m that will pick 1800 lbs at 160 feet radius!!!

Holy Crikey's and caterpillars! That is huge, that is one heck of a unit, that would cover every suburban block this side of the black stump!

That's it, one of them R/C and a big azzed chipper, ya done!

Hey, houses are cheap in USA, over here, last few years has killed it, the great Aussie dream of buying/owning ya own house has vanished for many, rent has gone through the roof too, just crazy what has happened here, doesn't make sense.

Problem is tighter budgets mean less tree work.

Did the crane co do all the truck mods and mounting as well or was that all seperate?

$300k for the crane alone or the whole shebang?

I drool a bit everytime i look at that thing.

$300k sounds a lot but it will outperform and outlast a lot of climbers wage $ hours and never call in sick or show up hungover.

Trev. That was everything. International moved the axles. Smith Cranes built the body installed the lift axle and mounted the crane which was built in Italy.
A truck that size alone is worth 100K plus. There is a 12%federal tax on new trucks that size + sales tax(8% where I am).

allmark,
truely appreciate the video of your crane. lots of work earlier will hopefully create less work later. raw steel is nearly as much of a passion as raw timber to alot of us!
best of luck with the new toy, stay safe and look forward to some more working videos!

I asked the bank for $500k for a knuckleboom and they said all they'd give was enough for a knucklesandwich

"tell him hes dreamin"

Too many overhead powerlines round here i reckon to get the best out of it.

I'd need to be doing so much more big removal work to justify the cost of something like that, especially the time you got it to Oz.

Maybe Taylors will buy one
