Hey Ekka, did you happen to ID the release mech for the bigshot? Were any of the climbers using a 'lockjack'? Last edited by treelinx; 5th October 2009 at 09:40 AM. Reason: spelling |

Bigshot trigger release video From top down you have a trigger connected to a pulley connected to a rope grab. The rope grab is connected to the pulleys center axle, very little play in this and a solid grab on the rope.

I'm going to guess that the rope is connected to the bottom pole of the big shot? Looks like a pretty slick system.

I have another slightly different idea for holding and releasing the trigger on a bs. I'll let you know Monday how it works. My brother doesn't believe in trigger releases, says it doesn't give you the sensitivity to the pull of the bands (unequal, etc). He was down here a couple weeks ago and we got out another brother's old big shot to put in a line at 100 ft. and to demonstrate his technique. He nailed the smallish crotch five times in a row with three different weight bags and three different lines. It was a pretty vertical shot, and each time the bag went to at least 115 ft. Nice shooting. My hands and elbows these days tell me to try a release rather than to shoot "natural." |

Combo pulley and rope grab in one. Works slick. 6 ft over a 4 ft pole. I can pull the bag back to about 8ft with the pulley with only medium effort. |

| If you are talking to me, the setup works well. I don't know really how high it was shooting today, as the trees were not much more than 100ft. And just for grins I shot a rock up at an acute angle and it practically went out of sight. It's more gear to fiddle with, but I am pleased with how easy it is to setup and pull. No sitback when releasing the rope after each pull. And the release is very controlled with nothing weird happening with the grab jumping or anything. The main issue is that if I am not careful I can really put alot of strain on the poles. I have tried 2 fours which wasn't long enough to suit me and some other combinations, but the 6 on top and a four on the bottom works pretty well. My brother's setup is a 6 and a 3 and a half, but he shoots by hand. My closest analogy is that now it feels like a crossbow. I plan to find somewhere where I can get some known heights, and calibrate the handle with some marks that correspond to a certain height with a given weight. Ironically the release and the pulley/grab together cost more than the BS and poles. One other thing is that I found myself only pulling it back a little and then loading the throwbag, as I didn't want to be putting my hands in the pouch when there was a full 8 ft of tension on the bands. |

| I can see that being a good idea. I've never used a big shot before, but knowing how far they can throw a weight, I can imagine the force one would exert on a human hand.

Great thread, I really enjoy using the BS and have always liked to use the trigger built in. I keep thinking wouldn't it make a great sport for golf? When I was studying we sent a few golf balls sailing on a rugby pitch with the BS. -Reckon we got about 800 metres before it touched the ground. |
