Hey everyone. I can't stand having work ads spammed all over the forum (even if it is by Ekka), I go to read the "New Posts" and they're all there, causing tons of pages to sift through to find whats happening out there. So I'm making a poll. Who likes having all of it spread all over every day/night, and who thinks it needs it's own spot in the TreeWorld archive? |

Hi All, Everyone's entitled to their opinion,I see it more as community service it makes sence Arbo's and the like read these pages so why not have this forum for folk looking for work and workers? If it helps pay the bills at Treeworld I'm all for it. After all if you dont like the forum you do not have to go there after your initial peruse. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Doesn't bother me; I never see em. I just go to the forums and threads I'm interested in. They are not "spammed" if they are not forced on you. |

That's right, I control it! I'm gonna learn to use the forum tools! I don't have a clue how those tools work. How do those tools work? I have all the control, I just don't know how to use it. What do I do with this control? Where's the "on" button? There's gotta be a switch somewhere. Tell me this isn't complicated. The future is in my hands... I think I'll sleep on it. |

Whenever you enter a forum, sitting there and looking at the list of threads. In the blue bar beneath the navbar, right hand side. Forum Tools > Mark This Forum Read (2nd option down) Then all those posts are gone. Can be a good habit to do it before you do a new post search, however I like to see them and read them. They are RSS fed in have to be allocated to a member name. If I exclude them from the new posts option then everyone misses out. It's a couple of easy clicks ..... done.

So, do we delete this thread now? Or make some sort of "announcement" for it? Or just wait till people complain and tell them about it?

Maybe I should not have a vote because I came upon this site by accident. (It was the "part time rocket scientist" that reeled me in. Haven't seen that fellow since to ask about that but it's okay.) I was looking for help identifying a tree here in Tucson and became facinated with the Tree W orld and people in it. I am learning lots of things from the different posts and yes, even the job announcements. Folks are friendly and encouraging on this site and I enjoy learning about things I never gave a second thought to before. Tree World has opened another rich part of my planet to me and I like it so far.Raven |

Ekka's way STAYS "read".... I don't have to double click it like with your method, John, every day when I come here and go to peruse the pages. Thanks for the tip though. I guess we could leave the page here. It might help other people to understand how some of the forum tools work who haven't played with them yet. |

When I exit (or not) the forum after double-clicking, that the forum stays read, UNTIL a new thread or reply gets posted in the forum. Are you telling me when you use the method Ekka mentions it permanently marks the forum as read and you constantly see this icon

Nah, it doesn't stay "read" ... just the feed is set for every 12 hours so you might not have waited long enough. Well, that solves the problem of removing that column of icons ... I was thinking of doing it but they can stay now.

Apparently, both JohnD & Ekka are correct here, and the time changeover hadn't occured between my checks. Darn time management skills!!! Either way, thanks to both of you. I like having the non-anonymous poll. You click the number link of people who voted and it shows who voted what. teehee. |
