That is a disgrace.. the person/s responsible should be chained to the remnants of the tree and publicly flogged

Lets find the person.

Have a read of the spin on this.

It would also be nice to know who did the work.

Mr Marsden has assessed zillions of trees and is an extremely experienced arborist. Laman Street is not an example of his best work, however, as he was unfortunately told by Newcastle Council that there were whole tree failures in the street in the 2007 'Pasha Bulker' storm (according to his affidavit to the Land and Environment court) when this was not the case. He therefore judged the remaining trees incorrectly.
While this is not about topping, have you seen his work for Ryde council?
He assessed trees on Ryde Common and said 102 trees had to go, 36 straight away. This was based, I believe, on visual tree assessment.
Fortunately the council wanted evidence before they removed all these trees so they had further tests done and only four of the trees had to be removed.

As a Newcastle person who believes there is nothing wrong with the Laman Street trees -apart from the fact that council don't like big trees and fig trees in other streets in Newcastle whose roots had been pruned by council fell over - I remain grateful that Mr Hartley and Mr Freeman lent the community their support.
Thanks for your continuing interest in Laman Street and thanks for your efforts to encourage high standards in the profession.

That's very sad! We've just had the contractor who prunes for ETSA up our street cutting the trees out of the wires. They've done their best in the circumstances, but truly, what a mess! I don't blame them, they've done the best they could. They've made target cuts, but the trees still look pretty ordinary! The real issue IMO is that people here plant the wrong type of trees on the verge or near their fences near the verge. I've just got back from Perth & was amazed at how their street trees are managed compared to ours. There are huge numbers of smooth barked apples on verges over there & they've pretty much all been topiaried. They look sensational & all it takes to keep them a long way from the wires is a quick clip with a hedge trimmer. It all seemed very coordinated, unlike here. I know the purists will not like the topiary aspect, but from my point of view, it craps allover valley pruning the wrong species planted under wires.

So in WA they top the tree and then hedge trim them.

I've read over here where it's said doing that to mangrove trees was in accordance with AS4373.

What a load of rubbish but Disneyland does it too.
