Default Dead Tree

Hi EKKA, The tree is dead about 2 years. It's in a back yard behind a 3 story apartment building. There is a factory directly behind the tree. Its on a patch of land 25' x 30', with fences on both sides. No room for a bucket or a crain. Am told the asian horned beetle killed the tree. Thanks

Well, maybe you can go half way up and drop out big pieces.

It's a bugger raking up the dead bits though.

I got this mental picture of cactus in the middle of the desert, stick a few pics up so we can see what trees you got over there.

Default Newbee + Dead maple = frustration

Hi, Thursday I received my equipment. My property is 8 acres mostly wooded. I picked a nearly dead birch to practice on. You gentlemen make it look easy. I climbed to about 30' pruning the limbs with an ibuki saw. Spurs worked great in the soft wood. OK, practice went well.
Friday, time to cut down the confined space dead maple. I set up everything, so the work will go smooth and safely. I try to climb the trunk with spurs and the trunk is like hard plastic. They go in maybe a 1/4 of an inch. All the bark is either off or very loose. I give up after 2 agonizing hours. I am not strong enough to trunk walk up this tree, at 124 k I know I need to lose weight. I love a challenge, am thinking of buying the tree frog from Sherrill tree. http://gear.sherrilltree.com/iwwidb....ti_item_submit
What do you think?
If I have to, my two sons can do it for me, I hate to give-up.

p.s. This is my equipment 150' Samson True Blue 1/2" Climbing Line, 150' Samson Tree Master 3 Strand 5/8" Rigging Line, French Prusik Split Tail Kit, Buckingham Master II , Buckingham Steel Spurs w/T Pads, 5/8" Steel Core Flipline Kit, Rescue 8, Silky 15" Ibuki & Scabbard, Red Dawg Boots - Climber, assorted slings & carabineers...
Again thanks for your help and this is a great site.

You got gear .... there's many who get gear, even huge trucks and chippers and cant/wont get up a tree so dont feel so bad.

Dead trees are like cuban palms, spikes very sharp and stab them.

Get a high line in and as you spike up a bit gather in the slack.

Tree frog? Depends on how much pruning you have to do.

Be very careful climbing dead trees! We don't unless the tree is only recently dead and we have enough experience with the characteristics of the particular timber in that tree to confidently predict what will and won't support our wieght....dead trees are very dangerous to climb and work in.

Stay safe

Hi Cannon, Best you try some spurless climbing techinques on the trees you are pruning. Save the spurs for the removals.

Hello all!

great site, EEKA is all over the web. I've viewed many of his vids. As soon as i figure out how to post photograghs I'll post some of my work. Nothing much, just some limb walking, palm felling, ect.
thx
vl2007

Hopefully this week i can get photos of a storm damaged limb removal.

I'll be using a 5-1 to release pressure on adjacent tree.
