Huh wow I don't want to coment on this topic to much mate for i recently finished working under the old president of the QAA but it is all very interesting, how the hell are they getting away with this... A good friend of mine just took out insurance with them they gave him a reciept of payment and that was it... NO terms or conditions on the contract that he was supposingly covered for the year, NO guidlines no nothing and as you said on your report. he wasn't even asked to show his qualifications... Yet i do give it to them in the sense that the organization (i use that word very loosely) all members are volunteers, apart from the girls in the office...... But as you said... ... look forward to giving my two cents in the forums.

Thank you for this opportunity to access the Tree World website. I am in the marketing business and specialize in Tree Services. Hi Ekka and everyone, I am the owner operator of a 12 acre dog park in North Metro Atlanta, Ga. I have a great deal of forested area with trees that need to come down regularly. I have been taking down trees for many years. A friend and I did it as a business in High school. I hire an arborist/friend to help with the tough jobs but just can not justify the expense for taking down everything that I have to fell. Lately I have had a few friends asking me to help them. I had a small little pine go the wrong way on me a few days ago (despite my notch and wedges) and decided it was time I learned a little more about what I am doing. I have determined that I want to invest in some tools to help me out and will be asking a few question regarding a minimal set of tools to support my work. I look forward to the discussion. Mitch |

Not sure I know the best way, but I did seem to get a couple posted. On the top row of the posting page (the page I am making this post on not the reading page) there is a paperclip icon. Placing your cursor over it will shortly reveal the title attachments. Clicking it will bring up a small screen that offers to help you choose files on your computer or upload a file from a ULR. Good luck |

hey everyone, thanks for the welcome here on tw, i look forward to hearing about new tricks, techniques and gear from people around here to make the jobs safer and easier, and im always up for learning (about splicing and rigging) and getting feedback from the tree world, i live in eugene oregon and picked up allot of west coast styles over the years, but was trained by my uncle who grew up back east, and worked across the country, so i have a broad spectrum of climbing techniques on my pallet, the real reason i joined here is because im looking for a new saddle, and have narrowed it down to the ergo or the tm, and i was pleased with the amount of info people here had on both. currently looking for a b'ham distributer but cant find one that carries the ergo in stock, maybe eugene is the wrong city, lol |

If the correct regulations are brought in then that negates the need for organisations like QAA .... likely why they defend their position and try to have such a stake in training and council back scrubs. Unlike USA, WE DO NOT get our qualifications from organisations like ISA, we get them from TAFE and colleges, which should be accessible to everyone regardless of their membership anywhere. We have the BSA, that's the regulatory body for builders and contractors of the like. You do not have to be a member of say Master Builders Association to be regulated by BSA do you? Nope. So, the current approach by the QAA indicates a position of them attempting to be the industry regulatory and credibility body .... simply a furphy far from the truth! By them attempting to set up "approved" consultants, trainers and contractors shows their mindset. They want control. They want the public to go to them and they decide who gets the work, but the public will only see a slice of the market place that is PAYING THE QAA TO BE THERE, shit even the yellow pages gives you a free listing! Take a good look at this picture, this is one of their members and sponsors who did this deliberately ... no ooops it was a slip, or something happened but an intentional quoted good ole butchering for a dollar. The person who cut it was a qualified arborist but they were told to do it and as employees didn't want to bite the hand that feeds them so they did it. Maybe, just maybe that's the QAA's thinking, dont bite the hand that feeds us too. ![]()

Hello.. people. Do not know how to post anything though I have looked at these threads for a few years now. I have been seeing a ton of Fireblight this year infecting shoots in the early Summer . Has any one had any luck with sterilization pruning and sprepto this late after flowers? I probably will not be able to figure out how to check this thread so hopefully I am not wasting time typing. Anyway thanks. |

Hi All I am newbie to this site. Would like to intro myself, I have worked in the Forestry and arbor industry for some 20 years. Not getting any younger, so decided to go into training. I have been teaching basic level 1 chainsaw course for the CFA region 17, past 9 years. Last year started at Longerenong College, Horsham and teaching the level 1 basic chainsaw course. We are trying to develop more courses for the college and public, because the interest in felling and pruning is growing. Well that capes it off for me. |

Hi, I am hoping that someone could give me some advice on a beautiful 30 foot maple tree that is growing next to a concrete foundation that houses a fence of my neighbors! apparently the roots are going under the foundation and causing them to buckle and crack. is it possible to amputate the roots going towards that foundation without compromising the strenght and health of the tree? This is a Maple with green veins on its leaves and located on lake property in the East Kooteneys, Canada! thankyou for letting me join this forum

Hey there. I'm a kiwi, and collector of exotic fruit and ornamentals. Have a subtropical nursery in Northland NZ. Check out my website: Home Russell Fransham Subtropicals Always interested to suss out new plants to trial here in the warmest part of NZ. Which isn't very warm but we manage to grow bloody good bananas and lots of other subtropicals despite a couple of frosts each year. I love Australia and spend a lot of time exploring the warmer parts. Russ. |

The reason for my visiting your site is I had 2 maples planted in late May of this year. One of them has dark raised spots of some of its leaves and it appears sad and droopy. I have watered alot as I was instructed with new trees. Now some of the leaves are turning red.....what's wrong with my little tree. I live in Illinois and the tree is about 8-9' in height. It is planted in middle of backyard. No other plants immediately around it. I have some mulch to keep it moist. Am I overwatering? Does it need to be fed something else? Please help? I love my trees...

Hi, I was a tree climber working in urban setting. Pruning, removals, hazards, storm damages, cabling both dynamic and static. A forty foot fall and a broken back got me out of the job full time. I now do it as side work and still love being up in a beautiful tree. I just want to be kept up with the industry so I can still climb safely and do the best for the trees I take care of. |
