G'day

You'll be surprised how much you have in common with some people on here.

For instance, I'm a fitter and turner by trade, 8 years, plus did a years post graduate study in engineering but you know ... stuck in factories just wasn't for me.

Many mechanical background people work in trees, advantaged by conceptualizing and problem solving skills. People like us understand loads, have grounding in sound mechanical principles .... like I always just knew the sheer in a 1/4" dia steel pin was 6000kg and the nut on a thread is usually the length that the equals the bolt dia ... yada yada yada.

Then we mix our "work" with our passion "trees" and do some great stuff ... but then there's the tree learning curve, plant biology etc, now unlike engineering that stuff never ends! Always a new pest, new disease, new fungi, new way to treat and old fungi, new species discovered etc and such diversity around the globe unlike the uniformity of engineering mechanics and principals.

Anyway, enjoy the site, and we're always on the look out for crossover ideas.

Welcome Didjon

Great to see you here, I get all excited when we get people from Europe, some of the best gear and innovations come out of Europe ... a solid history of logging with a strong support for adventure sports/climbing/mountaineering.

Hence companies like Petzl, Kong, Stihl, Husky etc.

Some of the cranes and towers are incredible.

Maybe you'll start your own picture thread like many others ... if you have a tree business it might pay to start it under your business name like many others, that way you can link it to your website or direct your customers there for a look at what you do. Consider this site and extension of yours and we aim to keep it professional and clean with a little fun to.

G'day TreeTopTim and Talcott

Talcott, 40 years of trimming wires, man that's a long time ... you'd have some stories to tell I'm sure.

Have you been like cutting for the whole 40 year or are you doing something else?

Default Hello from Kansas City

Ok so you may be thinking i live in the vast desert of flat lands in middle america. With nearby towns named Prairie Village why not think of the odd tree along the creek in the middle of the plains. "Plains" as in plain old prairie. But folks around here on the east side of the state we have lots of hills and trees to climb. Been a rec climber since 1996 and have invented lots of toys and tools to aid the climber. My best toy is the flying trampoline swing made from an 8 foot round tramp suspended with a six leg spider. Hang that from a 40 foot limb and you can load it with a ton of people.

Nice to hear from you again. Thanks for the Rope Friction savers. They are still going strong. Got a new rope from Master Splicer Nick (150' of Yale- Blaze) it is great and definitelly it is BRIGHT. Take care and See you in Colorado at the Rendezvous or maybe sooner.
How close were you guys to the Tornado in Greensburg?

Hi, Margie from Wichita, Ks. Just wanted to say "hello". I've just found this site and it is great. I know I'll have lots of questions , cause about all I know is that trees grow in the ground. We had late snows here and most of my fruit trees and ornamentals are suffering because of it. We are about 1 1/2 hours from Greensburg. There are no trees left there. Our son is a Firefighter here and word back is not really good. Some funny stuff too. Thanks for a great site.

It's great, every day we have people drop on by.

Hi to all the new guys, you know you'll have to post something too eventually.

Pics make it easy to break the ice, maybe a job you did or a defect you saw.

Hi Guys
Being new to this site, just thought I would say hi from the Caribbean, Grenada to be more precise, where we are about to open a recreational tree climbing and training center, makes a change from 18 years running my own business as an arborist, but should be fun..... seen plenty of austrailians for the cricket this last month..... well done lads, as an irishman I didn't know we even had a cricket team.!!!!
Some nice trees here though, even after huricane 'Ivan'.
Will post some pics as soon as I can..

Thumbs up howdy peoples

greetings to all from cornwall u.k...

im jd, i like to fell.

im a groundskeeper for a large country estate, encompassing a 40acre wooded valley that has not been gardened/managed for a dacade or two... mostly derelict mansion house, some specimen trees, a stream and a lake... and im the only chainsaw minded member of staff....all the fun of the fair.

ive got my small tree felling cert, and will be collecting the rest when funds allow. i have been known to climb the odd tree when necessary...

love ekka's video work, and im sure im going to love the community founded by his capable hand.
