My way of sticking to my guns!!!

HI!
I am retired and have been collecting vintage chainsaws for 15 years. I have about 300 in my collection, mainly from the 40's to late 70's. I cut old trees in a cemetery since they give the wood for free and they dont have the "big saw" to do the job. I have been in the mechanical work as a hobby fixing small engines for 35 years. I also restore old cars.
My first one was a 1939 chevrolet master deluxe. I am now in the process of completing a 1941 pontiac silver streak torpedo deluxe.

Hope i will enjoy this site and be able to share my knowledge and experiences with other members.

Alain,

Hi everyone! My name is chris and I live in Florida. I've been tree climbing for many years (recreational) and I just graduated college with a degree in civil engineering, But my true love is climbing so I started a company- Vector Tree. My training as a engineer has helped my to identify forces in blocks and ropes, pullies etc. Hence the name vector tree, has to do with vector analysis, so if I can help anyone with questions let me know. I want to turn my love into a career so I am currently studying for my ISA cert. If anyone has any tips or advice on starting a tree biz, feel free to drop me a line.

P.S. Ekka I have learned alot allready from your vids, keep up the good work.

Hey, newguy 18, yeah, I know where Liveoak is, my family has some land there that they lease out to a cattle rancher. Pretty nice place, but I like living a little more in town. I am from Jacksonville, or actually Orange Park, if you are familiar with the area.

Ekka, some of the trees are crappy, and some aren't, I guess I'm 50/50 on it, I've done some work in South Carolina, and I think the trees were crappier up there, maybe the work was just harder, due to some elevation change, it wears us flat landers out.

New people, Welcome!

VectorTree,

Here's one for you.

10,000kg pine tree which is 100' tall.

Tree has a back lean of 10 degrees.

We attach a rope at 60' high up the tree and want to fell the tree directly against the lean, like pull it back over center.

For the exercise please do not try to calculate or include and resistance from the hinge wood, consider it like the tree is on a frictionless/effortless mechanical hinge.

I have some video's of me felling side leaners and a bugger back leaner recently. In the past some discussion evolved as to the forces that would be put onto the side rope or the felling rope.

Be interesting if you could not only calc it out but provide the formula. These 2 videos might be the best so we could understand the amount of force required.

Felling dodgey big ironbark | solo felling.

Training style vid - felling a side leaner, most viewed video in my collection

Hello all!
I'm new to the arborist world, I found this site through ????????????.com.
-A little about me, I work in television full time, traveling for about 33 weeks a year. The rest of the time I spend at home around the house. I have a background in Biology and entertainment rigging and have been an avid gardener here in Orlando, Florida. I've become very interested in Palms and other exotic species of shrubs and trees over the last 10 years or so. I've been pruning the palms in my neighborhood for all my neighbors for the last couple years.
I figured I would take it a step further and get my ISA certification (which I am studying for now) and learn to climb trees....... maybe make a side job out of the whole palm trimming/care business.

Glad to have found this site!
