Hello all New to the forum, thought I'd join up as most tree related searches I do on google contain a link to here. Ive been doing tree work for about 10 years and have a cert 4 in hort and am finally working for a good boss who is happy to help me progress through certs 3, 4, and diploma in arb as well. What better way to expand ones knowledge then to tap the minds of a diverse range of fellow tree workers than a forum! Hope to be here for a long time! Cheers Leayton |

G'day from Tasmania. I am a 26 year old male who has been sawmilling for the lsat 13 years!! I left school at 13 to tail out for my old man in his mill. I now own and run it, along with an International S7 skidder and several Australian International trucks. Also cut Firewood too. Am in the market for a secondhand Lucas Mill, So if you know of any...LOL. Forum looks good am am looking forward to meeting you all at some stage in the future. Thanks. Acco. |

You caught me by surprise with the "Lucas Mill." I thought they were only here. There's many a day in any life when you realize how international we've all become. I cannot even imagine someone selling such an item second-hand. In your case, I'll wish a miracle for you! ![]() Leef | |

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but I had so much trouble trying to post it in the genral FAQ that I gave up. I was wondering if anyone knew of a Private RTO in Sydney that can do level 2or 3 in arboriclture assessments for want to be climbers? |

Greetings from Richmond, Virginia.... I just joined but I figured that I'd start it out by showing a video of me going for a ride on one of our skinny, tall Virginia trees. Hope y'all enjoy! |

Welcome to the forum. Wow you just let it bomb out to an abrupt stop on the ropes and the tree, mate teach your boys how to work the ropes and you will be able to minimise the shock loading on the ropes, tree and you wont get banged around so much.

| I know it, I'm happy to say that it was not my crew handling the rope during this video. Its always interesting working with someone else's guys. I guess they figured since I was running a dynasorb rope, that I didn't need them to let the top ride.

Hi All, This is my first time on this forum, and obviously my first post ![]() My name is Peter Buchanan, I'm 30yrs old and live in Brisbane. I have had a green thumb ever since I was old enough to be trusted with a shovel, with several large scale landscaping projects under my belt. Given my interest in all things green and growing, I recently decided to start cultivating my own plants, for use on my new property. Most species are tropical palms, ferns, broms, grasses etc. This being new to me, I am suprised just how quickly some species grow from seed compared to others. One in particular is Phoenix canariensis..... I've had the seed in a good propagating mix for 12 days, and they have already grown a thick 'tap' root ( not sure if palms actually grow a tap root ??? ) that is 4" long. I have concerns that the root will reach the base of the tubes I planted them in, before any foliage is present..... What should I do next? Anyway, I hope to be here for a while, so I can soak up as much info as possible. Cheers Peter PS. sorry to Eric Frei if I have not registered my username correctly :-( Please change to my full name if necessary. |

In the northwest of the USA, it is common to use tubes with open bottoms. The result is called "air pruning." The root stops growing downward and the taproot stops goind own, but many more roots grow along the tap root still inside the tube. Oddly enough, this works. Past that, get it into deeper ground as soon as you can for best results. And stand back and enjoy the view. The tree you just planted will be blocking that view soon enough. G'day all So, first up - I "skipped" the new rule of the forum thinking it was a bit of a joke, until I read a few threads about the use of real names. Odd but I'll follow suit if I can apologise for my mistake and hope I get my name changed (name signed off at bottom of the post) rather than banned off this site that I'm sure holds the information I'm after. I've tried posting in the name thread but it didn't take - I don't know if this is a result of admin needing to finalise my account or if I've done something wrong. Some background about me: I'm 29, been using chainsaws since I was in my mid teens - started using dad's old Stihl 032AV and now occasionally steal his 036 (farm boss?), a very nice saw IMO. I've since found some spare parts on fleabay and I've got the ok to inherit dad's old 032, it needs a new bore, rings and piston, otherwise it's pretty complete. A new air filter would be on the cards too. I'm also on a pile of subaru forums - a great hobby of mine - tinkering in general and 4wd'n my pride and joy called Ruby Scoo. Part of fixing up the 032 is to add it to the 4wd'n kit in the event of finding tree(s) down over the track - not for cutting new tracks! I'm looking forward to hours of reading on the forum and working out what I can do with the 32 ![]() Cheers Scott Bennie |

Hello! My name is Cliff Sullivan and I live in Bay City, Oregon. I'm looking for burlwood but fall into the category of the starving artist with limited funds. Please if anyone might have something available, I'd be willing to listen! I hope its ok to post a link to the stuff I'm looking for wood for...right? I hope so but if it isn't please accept my apologies as I'm new to the site. I'm looking for something with a really bizarre pattern in the wood to use as bases for these sculptures. Ideally, something with enough room to act as a base, the type of wood isn't important only the pattern and shape. Again, if I'm overstepping my bounds with this post, I'll accept any rule I've unintentionally broken. Cheers, Cliff Bigfoot / Sasquatch Sculptures |
