I highly recommend it as a diversion from all that boring cliff face driving I reckon it would probably be a bit bigger than the one at Kew, and it is simply a fantastic way to see the forest (while its still there, and not disapearing eastward as woodchips).

The Otways are great, did you see those old pictures at Colac, people used to put a roof on the stumps & live in them.

We've got one here, Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk - Southern Highlands, NSW, Australia but I'd like to see the WA, one Valley of the Giants.

There is a link to them all on there.

This might be a stupid question, but.... has any information been released on root damage and soil compaction? Sorry to be the pessimist (it really looks to good to be true).

For the non Brits.. A good show to find, maybe via the net, is 'A Year At Kew' or, 'Trees That Made Britian'.. Both have the same arborists from Kew Gardens but i think it is the first series that has ever made a true contribution to the changing face of Arboriculture. Plus these guys are sound. One episode looks at the use of Oak in Scotch barrels (for example). Not to say that all you woody birch's are whiskey drinkers..... ha.

I haven't read (or asked for) any info on the management of soil compaction issues both during construction and since the area has been open to the unwashed.....however would be very surprised if it wasn't dealt with very effectively during construction, don't know who did the actual work but do know the environs of Kew...there would have been very significant constraints on the methodology for construction.....As for after, well just not sure.

Took my kids to the tree top walk at Salsey forest a couple of weeks ago, it was only about 15 miles away and I had never been, It was free to get in and so relaxing to get away from everything the tree top walk only goes to 60ft but at least people get to see the magnificent structres trees are! Its nice for people to get the view we always get when were clambering around in them rather than what they get to see from the ground.

The Otway Fly is a 600 metre long 25 metre high elevated tree top walk ascending at a gentle grade through a magnificent stand of cool temperate rainforest featuring Myrtle Beech, Blackwood and Mountain Ash.

For the thrill seeker a 45 metre high lookout is ascended via a spiral stairway through the understorey to emerge amongst the crowns of the giants of the forest.

The Springboard cantilever bounces gently high over picturesque Young's Creek. The Otway Fly Tree Top Walk - Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia

I recently visited the Otway fly. Photos were taken by Cousin Pete. Thanks for the tip.
