Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2009| 60 year celebration

This week if you are in SEQ do visit Toowoomba.

Today record crowds packed the city, which really turned it on in glorious colour and country friendship.

Toowoomba, known as the "Garden City" situated just 130km west of Brisbane situated atop the Great Dividing Range at 700m altitude enjoys a little more temperate climate than Brisbane. The city is leafy with many streets beautifully lined with mature trees. You'll see plenty of temperate species like London Plane, Oak, Maple, Cypress etc. Coming from Brisbane and arriving in Toowoomba reminds me of arriving in Ballarat or similar ... a total contrast difference to what you usually see.

Today we watched the Carnival of Flowers Parade pass. Took a stack of pictures but it was hard to get the feeling captured to those images. The city joins together from real estate floats to skaters and of course the theme is flowers. I hope you enjoy the images captured and get a chance visit Toowoomba.

The entire city has stunning displays of flower gardens everywhere, bands playing everywhere, stalls, displays etc etc ... it was surreal.

Do be waterwise though, sadly their water levels are seriously low at 9% and they await the completion of the Wivenhoe pipeline hopefully before their dams run dry.
