Yes, where are all these responsible workers?

Contracting perhaps or running their own show.

Some high schools these days are linking in with TAFE, I know of a few doing hort and agricultural training that sets them well on their way for Diploma's later.

There's a stigma that careers only revolve around universities, but tradies are vital and can earn a decent dollar.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's there was a mass exodus from trade style jobs, many schools no longer did the metalwork, woodwork, plastics etc and anyone in overalls was treated like a 2nd class citizen. Then bang, a skills shortage arrived. No tradies.

Tradespeople get the job done, they are the front line, we all need to remember that and respect them.

Ekka

I went to Burnley when it was still respected. About 7 out of 10 guys that I went through no longer do tree work or are involved in horticulture - more money and safer working conditions elsewhere - Statistically where I work every person will have a lost time injury every twelve months. That's worse than construction, mining and farming. WE make those guys doing crab fishing look safe (Maybe but would like to know the stats)

A lost time injury. Well, that is vague and can range from a splinter to dismemberment.

Many occupations have injuries, tennis elbow, rotator cuff, muscle strains etc. You'd really have to supply the real facts and data, compare that to industry stats and then compare that to other industry stats .... then investigate why there is a blip.

Without the stats or facts, all we have is hearsay.

Well, yes and no...! particularly if you are a crabber in the NT (Australia) the only place where the main tool, is a 44 magnum on his belt at easy and fast reach, believe me, I know...!

However, I agree that most tree work, will be in one of the most dangerous "categories", there is...!
I don't know the injury and death status but, I wouldn't be surprised if is up there, at the top among a few other very high risk activities.

Cheers
George
