Hey Eric,

I was wondering how things are progressing? Do you have a target date when you are thinking of launching?

I can only say where we are up to. How long things take is not entirely up to me.

Next week we register everything with ASIC.

Then comes bank account, TFN, ABN etc.

This is the final Constitution, we are registering everything this week.

We also have a logo now but you will have to wait and see when we launch.

We also have set up a ATA Members only area on this forum where all documents and minutes are published. For members it is open and transparent, updated instantly and easy for you to get involved.

All registered.

ABN, TFN and bank account yet to come.

Website commenced but not fully functional yet.

We are unable to take money and get going properly until these loose ends are finalised, but we are here, finally.

After some backlash around the time of their AGM they posted out an amendment to the above fees, still a rip off.

If you read through the QAA letters – it is quite amazing – initially they wanted

Arboricultural Contractors:
$1000.00 Initial Join Up Fee and $750.00 per annum

That is $1750.00

Arboricultural Consultants:
Initial Join Up Fee - $750.00

The second letter says:

One would wonder – is this a little contradictory?

And

Quote:
We have also taken into account industry feedback from members both via the office and at the recent AGM
Love to know what actually happened – could one think some QAA members thought the fees were exorbitant – I do

But it goes further

Go to QAA’s web site – here
Queensland Arboricultural Association and click on – ‘FIND AN ARBORIST’

How come as of today there is only – unless I am totally out of my mind 22 are listed and some of these are duplicates in different categories or branch offices meaning there appears to be 14 ‘unique’ listings

I do not get it – does this mean from QAA’s first letter the ‘ stakeholders’ will be directing public enquiries to just 14 on the QAA register?

And the ‘stakeholders’ – 14 of them are councils –

This in my view is wrong – it should not be what organisation I am a member of that gets me referred to

It should be my qualifications and experience that are the criteria

Back to QAA’s web site

Queensland Arboricultural Association and click on – ‘ABOUT US’ / ‘QAA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2011/2012’

Should the president of any organisation that is funnelling enquiry with a fee for that service also work for a council that is doing that?

In other words it appears if you ring the Cold Coast City Council and say – ‘hey I need an arborist’ they may send you to QAA’s web site and say yes – there is a register here

But the question – is this the only register they will provide?

If you dig deeper you'll see more of what is clearly an org building exclusivity for some of it's members.

Go through that list again and then ask yourself how many on that list are already contractors to the "stakeholders".

So what I see has happened is straight forward.

To minimise competition and secure your contract you invent a system to try to strike out some of your competition, which includes excessive fees, red tape and prying into your intellectual property. The competition unless they pay the fee and belong to the club miss out on work (if things go down as QAA have represented but in fact we know they have lied).

Anyone with half a brain can see what they are doing, but there must be a lot of folk with less than half a brain to continue to support such tripe and pay not only member fees but sponsorship fees.

They have around 250 members of which roughly 100 are corporate members, something ATA does not have.

So now there is a list on their website that still fails ATA's guide of how to check on businesses. A great example is the list of qualified consultants, so you do not in fact get to deal with an arborist but a business name, epic fail. Since when does a business name not an individual do consulting and get a qualification? It is the skill of the individual not some business name that has employees come and go.

Another issue that is common and known of is people quit, resign, get injured, move on, retire etc etc and for all you know a few months after they get listed their qualified person/arborist is gone.

Wake up people and smell the roses, you have an org where a few are looking after themselves.

AA also want to roll out a CEU program, make more money eh.
