Default Save The Rainforest and Bali Biofuels.

Hello,

This is my first posting here. I am not a tree professional but feel very strongly that the following should be brought to your attention.

I came by Tree World by way of Google, searching for 'Rainforest Scam' and found your SCAM A Million Trees For The Amazon Rainforest SCAM. thread.

I have uncovered a scam in Bali, Indonesia, which is even worse and sure to anger aboriculturalists, ecologists and decent people everywhere.

The scam surrounds a business in Bali called Save the Rainforest which offered investors the chance to invest in 'Preservation Certificates'. At the same time, the men involved were running a furniture factory, a furniture export business and a construction company, all of which they kept quiet. However this isn't the punchline.

Without telling the people who naively bought Save The Rainforest 'Preservation Certificates', the men involved were secretly developing another business called Bali Biofuels. They had bribed officials in Bali to gain access to 200,000 hectares of land, most if which is untouched rainforest, for the purpose of growing biofuel.

That's right. On one hand they claimed to be saving the rainforest, on the other they intend to clear it. This is criminal deception, pure and simple.

With breathtaking audacity, these men invited TV cameras to record the signing of a contract that gave them access to that land:

Here's the video (comes on loud):

My blog explains the story in more detail here:
The Rainforest Redemption

The Law of Unintended Consequences:
The certificates that Save The Rainforest sold appear to be bogus. Unfortunately they sold one of their certificates to a fashion company in Hollywood, Los Angeles, a company called Five Four Clothing which counts Hollywood A-listers among their exclusive clientelle

It's possible that Preservation Certificate may have swayed stars to buy clothes from a retailer that paid to preserve the rainforest but in truth paid to do the opposite.

I have set up a Facebook page inviting people to agree that there should be a criminal investigation into the activities of these men.

Thanks.
