Rocky Lamattina and Sons $220,000 fine for tree clearing in South Australia

This would have to be a record fine eh.

Victorian food producer Rocky Lamattina and Sons has been fined more than $220,000 for breaching national environmental laws in South Australia.

The company cleared 170 trees on its property north of Naracoorte in 2004 and 2005.

The trees were deemed to be a likely nesting habitat for the endangered south-eastern red-tailed black cockatoo.

The Federal Court ordered the company to pay costs on top of the fine and regarded the company's conduct as a serious breach.

typical company attitude "just cut them down and pay the fine" its cheaper to do that than fight the council in court i have had several rich comps approach me for that kind of service i said no, as in the uk its a £10,000 fine per tree for protected trees. these people just want the work done at any cost.

I know of another case near me where the rich client wrote out the cheques to the by-laws and cut them down same day.
