Default Remembrance Day

We are all busy, we all have commitments that rush us through the day, hardly time to stop and have a break fro a coffee.....in Australia I'd like anyone reading this post to stop for 60 secs at 11am and think about just what it means to live the way we do....

for despite all the problems we think we have, all the things that erk us about our lives and those who do things we don't like...we are so very lucky in Australia to have all the benefits that all of us just take for granted, me included.

But you know its not luck.....well its is our luck to be here now perhaps, but it is not luck that Australia is the way it is relatively free from oppression, a representative democracy, where everyone over 18 (some exceptions) has the right and responsibility to vote the government into power.

So at 11am just think if you can what someone who had never left the family farm in rural outback Queensland was doing thigh deep in mud blood and guts in a stinking trench in a field in Flanders, about to drag himself out of that trench at the sound of a whistle to face raking machine gun fire just as he had seen his mates face and die the day before.

At 11am try you darnest to put yourself into that trench, feeling the grit between your teeth, tasting your sweat running down into you eyes...and thank the gods you don't have to be there.......

Because someone else did it for you.

The very least you can do is remember them, and buy a poppy.

Lest we Forget.

I took the whole family to the local cenataph and joined 500 others for a service and 2 minute silence we were joined by some of the old school local regiments and scouts keeping the memories alive.
