Why is it so important to have these qualifications? Are you saying that these people are the only ones with the ability to run a crew and know the do's and don'ts of the arbor industry? I question this as I am a certificate III but however the guy I work under has no formal qualifications and is more than capable of running a crew and I would never question his capabilities.

I think it would be because council may ask that only a qualified arborist do the job.

And Trev, it appears, is looking for the climber to be the crew leader.

However, a good crew leader which you have refered to may not be a good arborist, sometimes businessmen just buy a tree business but have never climbed a tree.

Just my 0.02

Its important to me because my business is marketed to my clients as having Qualified Arborists and for this particular position in my business it is essential. My current structure requires this candidate to be
  1. A Qualified Arborist
  2. Who is an above average Tree Climber
  3. With an abilty to "lead" the crew they work with towards achieving outstanding results for our clients, the team and the company.

I would happily have 3 seperate people cover those 3 separate roles but dont have $150,000 budgeted to do so.

Thr right candidate will easily be able to do all of the above.

I understand there are qualifed arbs that are poor performers and self taught tree workers that are awesome. I'm after the awesome qualified guy/gal.

Most council permits here recommend that the works be carried out by qualified and/or experienced Arborist.

The position will involve some climbing, but not all of the climbing. It will be as much a part of the job to train and oversee other climbers on the crew.

For me ideally, a foreman/crew leader is on the ground rather than up a tree. Best position to direct a climber and other ground crew, liase with client etc.

Yes ekka a good foreman may be great at organising his crew and the job, but when pressed for some technical answers by a client may not be able to deliver

Bump for the ad.

Still looking. Poor response. No bites from people locally of the standard i'm for. Position may also be made available for someone Quoting/Consulting approx 3-4 days per week with balance of practical on site work.

The only catch is youve gotta love working with trees and be awesome at what you do!

Ive had a couple of guys doing that for me in the past. % of Sales. Works ok but the temptation for them to underquote to get their commision is the problem. No use selling work that has no profit in it. Would be better to pay a moderate retainer and an incentive based on profit.
