Hi to all, i would like to take a second to say, that even though i dont use this site as often as many, on each and every occasion i require information of any kind it has been given to me. Not only the info but the contacts and sources to get exactly what i need. Thank you Tree World... I am a british climber with reasonable certs and experience... 5 months ago i needed a job in Calgary, Canada asap.(due to my meeting a Canadian girl in India)... I asked Tree World (from an internet cafe in Vietnam) and now i have a truck and crew at Arbor Care Calgary, earning enough to make my life very pleasent. I am in the process of applying for permenant residency (which is super easy in canada given that arborists rank highest on the required occupations list) and life is good. If you have the certs, experience and drive to work abroad (any country)then please come here first. Thanks Tree World

Well good on you and glad to hear all went well. I'm sure we all try to help where we can and the odd nuisance that distracts us from our true cause gets dealt with. I'm not really in the position personally myself where I can travel etc but sure do like seeing and reading the stories. So I look forward to seeing more of yours. I am also very happy to hear that in this job you are doing well and appreciated. Over here I try to raise the profile of the arborist but do feel like quitting now and then due to the mentality of people both in govt/power and industry/customers. There's nothing wrong with making money, doing well, liking your job ... but at times some feel that's a reason to attack you to, hope you dont get them types and ignore them, if you can buy a fancy TV or car from your hard earned money then good for you. Like I said before, thanks for the compliment to Tree World and it's members and bring on some stories and pics.

I get a kick out of sweatin my arse off and knowin it at the end of the day.... oh, and the whole fact that we look after the trees in a super skilled way... our techiques and general knowledge far out-way almost all other occupations out there!! (but of course, thats being big headed, and not the tree man way) .......... Hats of to Brent Secord

Oh, and with regards to the "feeling like quiting" i kinda know what you mean... i climbed for 9 months in Sydney in 2004. Yeh, 10% love the idea of green and healthy and 90% love the idea of "mine.... not yours"!! May i say, for all the Canadians.... Happy Stampede.... (I'm British, i will not be wearing a cowboy hat, let alone wranglers and boots (of the non- chainsaw kind) yee-haa) how many Canadaians we got here, hay???

Hello Manx tree I`m dutch arborist , working and living in this small overcrowded country makes me often think of Canada and maybe working over there for some time. Could you fill me in on the required occupations list and why arborist is so high on this list. Willem |

A yanky mate of mine from my Arb 2 climbing class last year said to me that you can't get a Work Visa for Canada after the age of 30, is that true? Manx, you make me drool at the mouth the way you talk about your customers and how you're set up, good stuff

hi willem. sorry for the delay. all the info you need can be found on the canadian immigration website. the noc's list contains all of the occuppations crying out for qualifed and experienced workers. I believe we are top because of the next to non existent training available in arboriculture within canada. if you have the requirement then its easy to get a tempory work visa (like mine) and because of the need, you could be working (legaly) in a matter of weeks. if you are looking to work abroad then australia and nz make for an awesome experience too. for both you can obtain a working holiday visa, allowing you to work for 6 months and travel for 6. the shortage of experienced arborists there is very similar to here... I lived and worked as a climber in sydney, in 03/04... it was the best thing I could have ever done for my career and my soal. if you need to know anymore then write here or pm me and I will try to help. good luck. .................... To john dee. age has a big part to play when it comes to scoring the required points. you get points for quals, experience, language and age etc. so if he scored a little low his age may put him just under. you can find free assesments on line. Ben.

Hey Manx, Glad to hear things are working out so well for you in Calgary. I too don't post/ visit Tree World as often as I'd like, but when I do I'm always impressed by the amount of helpful info and people. I especially like the video forum, Thanks Ekka for making it all possible! I also met Brent Secord thru Tree World, he's very knowledgeable and has sure gone the extra mile to help out, Thanks Brent! ![]() ![]() Phased1 |
