Default Illegal US Logger cops 2 years time!

A guy cuts down and sells 31 old growth cedar trees from Olympia National Forest in 2006. He fudges the paperwork to flog the stuff off to local mills etc but gets busted, and binned for 2 years.

Logger sentenced in old-growth tree theft

SEATTLE, April 10 (UPI) -- A timber thief was sentenced to prison Friday for cutting down 31 old-growth cedar trees in a Washington national forest, federal prosecutors in Seattle said.

Craig James, 48, Aberdeen, Wash., was given two years for the illegal felling of the western cedar trees, some of which were nearly 600 years old, from the Olympia National Forest in 2006.

James sold around 30 cords of western cedar wood, which is valued for its use in making musical instruments, to area mills after using falsified documents stating the trees had been harvested from private property.

The U.S. Attorney's office said in a written statement that the trees actually came from one of the last known stands of old-growth western cedar in western Washington.

James did not act alone in the operation; however U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton said he was "the straw that stirred the drink" in the conspiracy.

steeling trees aint no big deal here , seems most of the so called loggers do it around my area . two of my neighbors sold select cut timber to two different companies . both companies crossed the well marked property line and took trees that didnt belong to them . one . the land owner was just paid for the trees , and not sure what ever became of the other . a theif is a theif , no matter what they are steeling . hoot

I agree with hoot on this one. Last Year, we sold our Biggest Trees. Ash, and Soft Maple. When the Bush Logged, and the guy that did the felling took out Oak, that wasn't part of the Deal, and said when Questioned about it, said that he only took out was Marked.
B.S. He did the Marking of the Trees, and if he couldn't tell the Difference between Ash, Maple, and Oak, he shouldn't be in the Bush period, Marking Trees. Bruce.
