Three of the Wollongong councillors named in the ICAC inquiry stepped aside yesterday, and will remain on-leave until the inquiry is over.

They sacked the whole Tweed Council, same crap.

But seems they'll get charged and perhaps do time, GOOD!

The New South Wales Governor has formally sacked Wollongong Council after a request from the State Government.

Governor Marie Bashir met Local Government Minister Paul Lynch this afternoon and she has now signed a proclamation dismissing Wollongong Council.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) recommended the council be sacked because of systemic corruption, which has been detailed in recent public hearings.

Mr Lynch says the Government moved today after receiving the commission's recommendation in writing.

"Sacking councils is absolutely the last I want to do but when you've got no option, you've got no option," he said.

Mr Lynch says it is not possible to allow a new Wollongong Council to be formed after local government elections in September.

"Anyone who suggests that an issue of systemic corruption can be resolved within six months is I think fooling themselves," he said.

An administration panel will take on council functions for four years.
