Awe, you be careful RonnyB.

AS is OK in fact, I reckon, no BS aside, it is the most "liberal" forum out there.

Liberal in the sense of unconstrained, free.

What I like about it is this.

It has huge membership, somewhere around 18K members.

It tolerates the likes of Sap and Axeknot (and me occasionally except when JPS infractions me).

It lets things run it's course to a certain degree. I tested many threads on other forums and they got pulled, I got banned etc but AS is open minded.

Also, AS is not owned by some org, in the pocket of some org, dictated by some org or wannabe tree hack. It's a site predominantly American and I hope it stays number one because of its independance, it's free will and business acumen.

No, I wasn't paid enough for this post.

Sterility, over abundance of nerds, control freaks and the like are kept at bay over there by a natural balance. I like that.

At the end of the day we are but people, who have daily work pressures, family pressures, business pressures etc and it's nice to have sites where you're comfortable.

I hope some day this place will be as large and frankly as well moderated. I have seen first hand what happens elsewhere, what some "know alls" are capable of (idiocy) and what some freaks and power mongers attempt.

Hmmm, yep, I'm done now.

Keep going it was just getting interesting, what happened with tree service forum, you didn't seem to say anything wrong? Were they just jealous that an Aussie could do it better. I found you at AB, very good site but no local stuff, .

That forum is a dump.

The owners have to hide and it soon became a terdhouse hang out with kiddie porn king MB holding the reigns.

Yes, they're out classed, out smarted and sore losers.

Just an attempt to money grab... WANKERS mate.

So len recommended that his muni buds listen to working arbs, good. I hope he has continued to raise the level of his articles and especially his tests.

Don t know what you mean by muni buds or are excluding me from working arbs but I ve been working on trees every working day since 1969 and I am sure put a lot more hours in the trees than you have. I use the Len tests and seminars for ISA recert credits and think they are for the most part, well presented and chosen.

Sounds like you are referring to Clearance or someone like him. People are always dissing cert arbs over there and some even think their little niche cert is more valuable and difficult to attain.

I spent last winter on AS and really enjoyed it until 2 times in 3 days I was blindsided by 2 different people for no discernable reason. I don t mind, and even enjoy someone taking a swing at me but let me retaliate. In the lst instance I was deleted after initially posted, and in the second one I was censored. I had had many exchanges with JPS, and I thought there was a mutual respect over time, but changed my mind when I got handcuffed and left. Love agood fight, but if I cannot swing back it takes all the fun out of it.

Hmm, I think I remember that; in fact I may have been one of the "blindsiders". I recall someone lashing back disproportionately at imagined offenses, kinda like
"Don t know what you mean by muni buds or are excluding me from working arbs but I ve been working on trees every working day since 1969 and I am sure put a lot more hours in the trees than you have. Muni buds refers to the reason that online seminars was started, according to Len--to allow muni arbs to get ceu's without leaving their desks or towns. the articles have improved; before there were a lot of infomercials. The tests are still ridiculuously easy T-F affairs--Hey Eric, you ever seen the site? Maybe you could petition to get Oz cert folks to approve their ceu's.

It would be highly entertaining to count all the hours I've been in the trees professionally since 1965 and have a royal peeing contest with you, but I don't see the point, and we don't want to mess this place up.

O and it is a GOOD idea for towns to start treating the ashes they want to save. I do agree that some of the older ones may not be worthwhile.

Don t recall any unpleasant exchanges with you. This is why I was surprised to see such a bitter and condescending post during your commercial for AS. BTW your "knock down, drag out....".......it was all just imaginary...(you know that....right?).

You couldn't recall me lashing out and over reacting bcs I got censored.

Take a look at my sentence and your response if you want overreaction.

PS. treating the ash doesn t remotely mean they are being saved. No sure treatment and besides treatments I described were a 3 to 6 year plan at approx 100k$ per year prior to cutting them down as the expense , in their mind, would finally become intollerable to the public by then. We re just talking about city trees.

I just read two; generally good info and based on better sources than some I'd seen in the past. The tests are still the major issue--the wording is way unclear and requires a lot of guesswork on the questioner's intent. Compare them to the Arborist News tests; those HAVE to be more tightly worded, or they get tossed. The MC instead of T-F format makes them much harder, and better verifies understanding.

Again, I'm encouraged by the improvement in the research and the writing, but overall the test quality, and the fact that by taking them arborists can stay recertified without leaving their computers, imo diminishes the value and credibility of certification. This is an ISA-Cert committee issue; no reflection on Len's good efforts.

Most of my recert credits, prior to his passing were Alex Shigo seminars. I have recertified 5 times over l5 years for 150 credit hours. The other end is when you get stuck in a seminar with a self important, boring, redundant speaker. Been to many of both and many in between. Never took a test to verify knowledge or retention in one of them. Have any of you?

Another delayed thought. This is the part of certification that really matters. I think the test is just an initiation. Not very hard IMO. We recert you are forced to keep learning and in the process should keep current.

I really ISA would acknowledge this time/credit acquisition on your certification number of somehow. It would probably keep more indivs from quitting.

So those seminars you get 1/2 point each, maybe rack up 4 points every 2 months so over 3 years just doing Lens seminars means you keep your cert.

I'd say the stress would be on the writer to get articles.

I ve just been doing Len s seminars for a short period and find I learn some stuff and relearn some other stuff. I think it is a great idea but I think and prob others do also that a full diet of only this would not be advisable. Shigo used to have these glorious seminars with great food in incredibly gorgeous locations that hopefully will be taken up by someone that has walked the walk and can talk the talk such that he could. Kim Coder comes to mind.

I d also say that the stress is on the writer!
