Poor guy. While I was in the shop the other day a bigshot shiny-ass lookin guy in a suit came in and said he needed a saw "to cut down a tree in his yard". The sales lady was like "oh I'm sure we can find the saw you need". I asked him if he'd be interested in having it looked at and he declined, saying he'd always wanted to cut one down himself. Some people you just can't reason with, and it's scary that they're doing stuff on their own. |

This is why we need to promote saftey and make sure our clients understand the many dangers of our job.Everyone of my clients is way to scared to do thier own trees,i say its a healthy fear to have.If they are still thinking about trying it, i got a few stories for them.

Yeah, but this guy was 80 years old. I think they get stingier as they get older and value their life less, true. I quoted an old guy yesterday, he wanted some stuff done .... all ground felling of small trees (easy). He had 2 cocos palms and told me not to worry about them, he goes up the ladder and does them himself ... one of them had 3 service wires beneath and the fronds lying on them. Old people, scrimp every way they can many times and do put themselves in harms way to save a buck. Down the Gold Coast (old farts capital of Australia) I recall working on a canal and across the water was a load of carry on, ambulance guys, cops etc but too far to make out what was going on. Read in the paper next day pensioner fell from ladder while cleaning palms and died!
