The thing about posting on Treeworld is about adding content and getting recognition plus links. The focus of Treeworld has been about getting you, the front line, exposure and sharing of information. I have thought out a system where trusted members can set up their own Paypal payment button as I have in my signature so others out there, even lurkers, can tip or pay you for your posts. Post something really informative and you'll never know what others might send you. ![]() You will need a Paypal account. You will need to use only the button at this URL http://www.treeworld.info/images/blog/paypost.png It will be the standard button to avoid confusion. It will also change everyone's button at the same time if we all use the same URL, so there will be uniformity. If you want to partake in this and get paid for your posts you need to list yourself here. If you are stuck or do not know how to set this system up discuss it here, but you will need a Paypal account. Then you generate the 'donate" code but for email not html. Send me that code snippet by PM to me and I will set the button up for you in your signature. Post 16 below also has helpful hints for setting this up.

Hey All, What a great idea ! a lot of research goes into giving the right advice, not to mention all your years of study...and in a lot of cases the money saved by the viewer could be considerable. Whether it be what to look for in a reputable contractor, business or what not to let on your property without checking first. All this information is given without payment, a little show of appreciation although not expected would be a pleasant surprise...I'm in!...

Well i have to say that i was originally sceptical about how this would work when i started reading the post, however after reading this all the way through it sounds like a great idea, all we have to do is get a paypal account and off to go. good idea Ekka innovative.

Hey, I have already made money! Thank you readers. Also, as there is always skeptics and people who want to say online advice is bad, call an arborist etc I bring you the latest news. Kevin Rudd, the Australian PM, announced a dial a doctor program. Now if it's good enough for a doctor to assist ill people over the phone then surely the internet is even better as we get pictures and could even get video. Quote:

Really? you got paid for posting? How much do they pay you? Some of the info I've lifted from here is worth paying for but I wouldn't know what it's worth really. You might insult someone if you pay them $1 and the info is probably worth $20 if you buy a book or travel to the library or whatever. How much am I worth I wonder. |

A good idea Eric, after all, lots of research goes into some of the answers, especially the Ident for me, lots of study to just get there as well. I like giving advice to people, if I can help them, you blokes give some excellent advice that helps a lot of people, for free. So if they want to volunteer something in return that,s just great, after all it's up to them. I'm in, just have to set up a paypal account. I need one anyway. cheers Julie |

I think since I am not an Arborist by trade and I always learn something from your postings I will feel bad for not tipping every time that I learn something (which is most of the time by the way). I still think this is a good idea (for the recipient of course) and to increase traffic to the site. If I would consider tipping for all the great ideas for climbing systems, great videos on safety, even general questions about safe climbs and problem solving I owe you guys a bunch of cash. I can see how a homeowner drops by looking for some advise on his/her problem and most of the time you guys provide great ideas or suggestions to resolve his/her issue and they may be willing to tip not just the hat but drop some spare change on someones pay-pal account. Best Wishes! I will continue looking and tipping from now on. I guess I need to open a pay-pal account in order to be able to tip someone?? |

People have no obligation to tip. We do not know who is reading the posts. I drive traffic here. I literally market this forum and send people here. People ring me for advice and it's easier to deal with it here versus charging callout fees and sitting in traffic for 1 hour to see the problem is near insignificant or a no brainer. So the concept is also aimed at that.

Interesting idea..... I think its particularly good for the Ask An Arborist section. It takes time & research to answer these posts, and when it is your paid work/day job to answer these types of questions i know myself i often don't put as much time as i could into that section on here for free. Ekka, do you know of any other types of forums successfully using this idea? |

Thanks a lopa, ![]() But I'm still not sure! I don't have a problem making the donation, so I'll PM Ekka as suggested, with what I think is required and await the reply! Ouch!! My regards, themoudie. |

OK... hey, why not? Listing myself here! ![]() So how do you just generate the email payment code? On Paypal they just sent me to how to set it up on a web site, with all the features. Also the say on PP that there are fees involved: 1.9% to 2.9% + $0.30 USD |

Lopa,I just did yours. I also "tinyurl" the code for safety. If you go to edit your signature you'll see how I done it, but of course do not edit it. Everyone's button will be driven off the same URL so when I make a change in appearance for whatever reason, everyones changes at the same time. ![]() You need that code snippet that a_lopa had. You get that by going through your paypal account like this. Merchant Services>Donate>Email Code .... get the code and save it. Here's a look at the code, I had to upload a pic as the forum software converts the code into the picture and link etc. Code: On the Merchant Services page select donations ![]() On the donations page make sure the donations tab is showing and complete the form and create the button ![]() Once button is created get the email code for it as we will be adding our own button

Great idea, but i definatly wouldn't call myself an arborist, all i seem to do is remove large, dangerous and really dead trees.About all i 'm good for is teaching climbing, cutting, rigging, and how to have some attitude while doing so,but it can't hurt so i'll set it up tommorrow.

Southsoundtree, yours is not working .... "fatal error". This has happened to a few guys, you need to get new code from Paypal, make sure it is the EMAIL code.

Eric: Thank you mucho for taking the lead to install this option here. (I mean it ... I clicked YOUR button/sent you $5 as token appreciation, for your idea and follow-through, etc.) But may I respectfully request that someone re-do the step by step graphics? These existing graphics are already off to a good start. But I can't work through them as they are ... partly because the PayPal pages/graphics and layout details are different now (at least here in the US). So, besides using most current views, maybe add numbers/words to cue us a bit more precisely (in sequence) what/how to do what's needed ... no details overlooked. [see attached marked-up page view] (e.g. ?? why use the "Use my secure merchant account ID" option, and NOT the other option: "Use my primary email address"?) Thanks in advance. BR in Florida |
