Default Ekka on holidays till next Thursday

Just a heads up.

I'm not really around, on holidays for a couple weeks.

First proper break in 10 years, gone fishing at Burrum Heads.

What a great break.

I'll have to do that more often.

The best day's fishing was the last day, everything was right.

High tide at dusk, was a corker at 2.8m (and they were going higher to 3m rest of the week ) so I grabbed a good spot on the rock wall of the river mouth.

I ended up catching 4 great bream, biggest was 40cm and fought hard. I was fishing next to a great ole semi retired guy from central NSW Murrumbidgee region, he landed a good looking cod!

Had a ball, kids even caught their first fish (at a place called Buxton) ... each. Imagine that, within moments of each other they both had a fish, I tossed them back though as a little small (I only take bream around 27cm+).

That was ginger bream recipe, they were caught, cleaned and eaten within a few hours.

Check out this place, how beautiful is it?

Looking up the river.

One of the well equipped fish cleaning stations, pelicans take care of the remains!

The waterfront caravan park has it's own tinnie boat ramp, this is a ramp where people have wheels on their tinnies and can use the winch if required to roll on/off. There's two other double ramps in town anyway nearby for larger boats.

And this is one of the typical walkways through shady trees right by the water ... and stairs frequently to get down to the water etc as req'd.

Sure looks like a good place to take a break, It's allways the way the fish come on the bite the last day of your hol's or as you come to your last few prawns....Damn..Looks like a nice feed too!

Burrum Heads, about 300km north of Brisbane.

Sort of between Howard and Hervey Bay.

Nearby is also a ripper of a little place called Toogoom, we fished that joint a bit too.

Your kids will remember this their whole lives! I look back on fishing trips with dad as some of the finest times in my life.

Good on you, Mate!

Glad to hear you had fun Eric,i'm still working on that boat, gotta seal and boil the trim ring yet but its buoyant. The kicker, well it has issues.Man i got my dad a good bit of fishing gear last week for his b-day,my mom and brother got thier license and poles also. They all went fishing during Faye but nothing worth keeping.I'm thinking of going since one of my clients live right on the bank of the suwannee river and says i'm welcome out there anytime i want to go fishing.

On the way to sugar capital and rum city Bundaberg we stopped by a truck/cane train interchange.

The full cages are rolled off a truck with rail tracks on it onto a railway.

Empty carriages are then pulled up onto the truck with a winch.

One of each in the same pic.

Looking down the railway system.

And of course the kids have a sweet tooth.
