Where are you located? Rules vary country to country, state to state.

I would say you contact the appropriate owner of the land whether that be forestry or private owner etc. How are you going to cut them off, flush cut the trunks of trees leaving large wounds? Personally I would forbid it unless they're on dead trees, even then I could see mass mutilation of habitat and a commercial venture trashing the forest. So I dare say a variety of answers will be found, but if it's a private land owner and the tree is not protected then you may slice and dice all you want I suppose.

Im not trying to wreck the forrest. I just wanted to find a few for personal use. Im not a logger or anything like that (commercial). In other words im just one man trying to obtain a few for myself or one big one for a table would do the trick. Thier twisted unpredictable grain is just so beautiful to see. So I should only get them from dead or almost dead trees? that would be ok with me. |

Thank you sir, for your input you have been most helpful. I do want to be responsible to keep sustainable forrests so I shall ask around, perhaps a conservation officer would know huh? or lawyer who know it doesnt hurt to ask
