Default Bakers Tree Service NZ Smash House

Well in the article I think they got the 6m high part way wrong. Anyone know who the guy on the saw was?

Felled tree hits Auckland house - national | Stuff.co.nz

Quote:
The felling of a neighbour's gum tree resulted in a buckled roof and shattered conservatory for a couple in the Auckland suburb of Glenfield.

Tanya Whitworth was in tears at the sight of the damage caused to her home at 48a Tamihere Drive by a silver dollar gum tree measuring up to six metres tall.

She was in the conservatory when the tree, cut down by contractors, toppled on to it.

The window and framework were damaged, as well the roof, particularly above the master bedroom downstairs.

"I had a feeling something was going to go wrong," says Mrs Whitworth, who was uninjured.

"I thought hang on, there's no ropes and it's over 20 feet, it's huge."

Neighbours Dan ??????? and Laura Gerin say they rushed to the house when they heard a "bang and someone scream" about 9.30am yesterday.

At the section below were arborists from Baker Tree Services, with a chainsaw, a tree stump and the tree sprawled across the Whitworths’ home.

Baker Tree Services owner John Baker says larger trees are generally taken down in pieces but not always.

"Something’s gone wrong and the tree went the wrong way.

"Depending on what we find there will definitely be some disciplinary action. It was an expensive mistake and could have been worse."

He says the company is investigating and any compensation will be covered by insurance.

Mrs Whitworth says she was previously told that the tree’s branches which overhung the Whitworths’ property would be trimmed, and other trees removed.

Mrs Whitworth says she went outside to speak with the arborists when they began work on Monday morning and when she returned to the house the tree hit it.

Her husband Philip says he can’t understand why the North Shore City Council gave consent for such a large tree to be felled in such a way.

"It should have been cut down in stages."

Council compliance and monitoring team leader David Frith says a resource consent was given for the removal of three gum trees.

"We look at the tree in terms of amenity but the responsibility of removing it safely is with the property owner and the person doing the cutting."

Looking at picture 2 you can see the tree has snapped backwards. they put the back cut at the same level as the gob. no wedges, no rope, no felling lever, no talent, no wonder.

No way I would have fallen that tree that way with a house that close. Blocking it down would have been the only way. I cannot see the clearing to the other side that obviously was there, but WTF were they doing? Even if only 1/30 trees falls back over the hinge, any wind, miscalculation of tree weight, or snap or barber chair in the trunk during a correct fall would spell disaster. Even with ropes... forget falling it from the ground.

Morons prevail. Maxicans do that kind of stuff here. Owners want a cheap bid, and cheap is what they get. Paco and Homberto cut down a tree and they have no insurance, and wham! Then Paco tells you that he has a brother in the roofing trade that can fix the roof for "el cheapo." That actually happened to a friend of mine in NY state. Or rather to an arborist who made a bid on a tree that was turned down because he was "too expensive". The owner of the house even had the balls to ask him if he would be willing to make the claim on his arborist insurance, claiming that his crew cut the tree and not the Mexicans, and take a kick-back. He turned the guy into the state authorities, and notified the guy's home insurance company. New York is pretty corrupt that way, and they did not do anything. The Mexicans are still giving out bids.

Arbor work here is pretty dead. I have not had any takers on bids for over a month now. I am consistantly, 'too expensive'. Phuck 'em. Let them pay the insurance, and equipment costs, take the physical and financial risks, and do it all right. It costs me too much to work for any less. The trees will keep growing...

wow! no rope even. like there confiedence.Whats your guess of the trees length? I put 5m+ from stump to house then another 9m across the house as it seems to span 3 rooms averaging 3m =9m and its on an angle, so I'ld say at least 14m. Do we know anyone in Auckland with a tape measure?

thats more like 20 meters look at the size of the saw compared to the tree, they probably meant to say 60 feet = 18.29 meters which is a huge tree to land on a house
