Post Any Arborists near Mt Eliza? Help wanted

Anyone out there who can check out this tree and location?

Pictures would be great.

ADD YOUR VIEW: Should this Mt Eliza tree be retained? - Council - News - Mornington Peninsula Leader

Quote:
IRATE Mt Eliza residents fear removal of a monterey cypress tree outside the Eliza Square Shopping Centre will wreck the town’s village atmosphere.

“We don’t want to be a sub-city of Frankston or to see our land values diminish because people no longer think of us as a village,” resident Ken Piesse said.

“The thing that draws visitors to Mt Eliza is its quaint English village atmosphere.” Mr Piesse accused the shopping centre owners, who have applied to Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to remove the tree, of thumbing their nose at residents.

Council last year rejected a 40sq m expansion at the front of the centre. An appeal by the owners to VCAT is due to be heard soon.

Eliza Square spokesman Jeremy Walker said original plans for the expansion included retention of the tree.

But he said an arborist had subsequently found the tree to be unsafe. “There’s a number of big branches that have fallen off.” he said.

Cr Leigh Eustace (Mt Eliza Ward) said the tree should be retained.
June Horner (Secretary of MEAG) commented on the story and wrote:-

Quote:
The Monterey cypress tree is an historic tree and an iconic symbol of what the Mount Eliza Village landscape stands for. MEAG's Arborist report states that the tree still has ten years of life left in it and is a healthy tree as it stands. Currently there are at least 105 formal objections lodged with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to stop the tree being cut down. The tree is part of the developer plans submitted to VCAT for a hearing on the 15th April 2011 where the developer wants to place a deck around the tree and provide a 90 seat restaurant. Since 1973, when this tree was first saved by the original Eliza Square plans by the City of Frankston, this tree and the public area out the front of Safeway has been maintained by both councils. On August 16th 2010 the Mornington Peninsula Shire council refused the developers plans to build out the front of the Eliza Square building. The developer has filed an Application For Review at VCAT.
I would say the tree appears to be living in a restricted root area, is likely over mature and any further development including a deck will expedite it's demise. But a hands on look at it would be great. Maybe we could get that arborist report and see what's in it.

I have emailed MEAG.
