A 37-year-old contractor has been airlifted to Royal North Shore hospital after falling up to 10 metres from a cherry picker in Bulli this morning.
Paramedics were called to a site opposite an Integral Energy substation on Hobart St about 8.30am after reports the man had fallen between eight and 10 metres while cutting tree branches away from power lines.

An ambulance spokesman said the man was conscious when paramedics arrived, but suffered suspected abdominal and pelvic injuries.

He was stabilised at the scene before being airlifted from the grounds of nearby Bulli Public School by the Ambulance Rescue helicopter to Royal North Shore hospital.

Wollongong Police and WorkCover NSW will investigate the incident, with a WorkCover inspector due to arrive on site within the next hour.

The ambulance spokesman said the man was wearing a harness at the time of his fall.

Ok according to the ambulance spokesman he was wearing a harness. Was the harness connected to connection point inside the bucket?.. no doubt it will come out in the investigation.

Dang, what you quoted on that link is now reworded. Now it's only 5m. I cant see anything saying his harness failed though in either version.

Did he fall from a cherry picker or tree?

The media has made a mess of this.

Its very easy to wear a harness and not clip in to the hard point,Maybe thats caused the fall.

That was my thoughts on the matter as-well. We should find out after Husky man talks to his buddy.

5 metres?! That emergency shock cord in the harness attachment ain't gonna work at that height. Well it won't slow you by much, no matter what kind of condition it's in.

Awful, this happens to often and suspect the many close calls are not spoken about. Climbers with loose clothing over hard points swapping lanyard clip side, left right side etc so easy to loose your judgment when its covered by your shirt.
Thats a terrible moment when you lean back n keep going, I was lucky snagged a small wonderful twig.
