Helmet saves tree lopper - Star News Group

Quote:
A HELMET prevented a work accident from being a more serious situation at Cranbourne last week, paramedics said.

A 21-year-old was struck on the head while he worked as a tree lopper last Wednesday.

Advanced life support paramedic Jacqui Simon said the branch cracked the man’s helmet.

“He was knocked to the ground and was briefly unconscious,” Ms Simon said.

The man had some neck pain and had trouble remembering what happened, she said.

“The fact he was wearing a helmet has certainly reduced the severity of his injuries.”

The man was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition and released that day.

I agree. Last year, I was using a buzz saw mounted on the three point hitch of the tractor, and ran off of the PTO. As I was cutting a piece of wood, that had splintered, a chunk of the splinter came back, and hit the mesh face screen, and put a dent in the mesh. Happened so quick, if I didn't have the face screen, probably would have lost an eye. Bruce.

If that happens with a Buzz Saw, I can only imagine what it would be like working around a Chipper, and probably the velocity, is a lot faster, and harder hitting, to boot.
Before PPE, was there a lot of injuries around the chippers from flying debris? Bruce.
