Chainsaw accident kills Glenn Dobrusky

Published: April 2, 2009

Glenn Dobrusky, a local Gold Beach wood sculptor and surfer, was found dead at his Hunter Creek Heights home last Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2009, after apparently accidentally slicing his throat with a chainsaw he was using to create his artwork.

A Curry County Sheriff's deputy found 58-year-old Dobrusky at 1:18 p.m. last Tuesday when he went to serve

legal papers at Dobrusky's home located at 28390 Hunter Creek Heights.

Next-of-kin was located and notified, and an autopsy was performed on March 26. The results of the autopsy were consistent with the investigative finding that Dobrusky's death was accidental.

Analysis of the scene indicated that Dobrusky was working in his shop, using a chainsaw on a wooden sculpture when the chainsaw blade somehow made contact with the throat area of his neck, causing a fatal wound. It appears that the accident occurred sometime early in the morning on March 24.

Very sad thing to hear about. I watched a few guys doing Carvings at Exhibitions, and the way that they constantly use the tip of their guide bars, makes a person scared to watch, because of the high risk of Kick Back. Bruce

Hmmmm sounds kind of suspicious to me, here we have a man in his late time of his life at 58 years. A deputy has come to serve him legal papers and finds him dead with a slit throat from his carving saw. Lets get things straight here, a dime or quarter tip size carving bar gives out almost no kick back energy especially when a experienced filed 1/4" or low profile 3/8 chain is used.
I can also share with you of a time a few years ago where my father inlaw found his neighbor in the middle of the afternoon laying dead on the ground with a slit throat and a butcher knife in his hand.
Sad isn't it.

haha I don't know if the father inlaw got the story right finding him with the knife in hand, I think if someone slit his throat in suicide his reaction would be to drop the knife and clutch the throat. But who knows how a suicidal thinks and would react. Just a bizarre story just the same, I sure wouldn't want to witness that.
