Default Bushwalker escapes serious injury after tree fall

Quote:
A GROUP of walkers were involved in a bush rescue after a tree fell on a man on a track beside Mooney Mooney Creek last Sunday.

The walkers from the Australian Plants Society - North Shore Group were exploring the area under the Mooney Bridge on the F3 when the incident happened.

A large dead tree fell on group president Mark Abell and just missing the walk leader.

The walk leader Sue Frederickson immediately called emergency services

Mr Abell was saved from more serious injury by his back pack which was badly damaged.

He sustained a fractured ankle and multiple bruising and grazes.

Within fifteen minutes the ambulance and police services were at the site and, due to a locked gate, had to call in the air ambulance to evacuate Mr Abell by helicopter.

He is now in Royal North Shore Hospital recuperating from surgery to his ankle.

The group thanked the emergency services.

This man was lucky to survive this unfortunate accident and one might ask how much risk is an aceptable risk ? I'll leave you to ponder this question..

You got more chance of winning 1 div tatts than been hit by a droppin forest log , strewth poor unlucky bloke.

Driven ya car to the pub 1 :10,000 injury or death to get a slab a beers n smokes 1. 5000 cancer 1 : 2000 alcohol disease flyin in the helicopter after the rescue got more chance of grief.

What shits me is these things never seem to happen to pricks who may deserve it. Why not smack Martin Bryant or Alan Bond with a log or limb huh??

The key is ....

"after a tree fell on a man on a track"

So we have a thoroughfare, a track that invites traffic.

Sure QTRA might run some absurd numbers but this is what happens when you gamble with odds.

Sorry Mr Abell, the acceptable risk for something like this is 1/10,000 .... pharmaceutical products run on risks lesser than 1/1,000,000 but you know, this is trees not drugs, so bad luck mate as our methods said the odds were better than 1/10,000.
