Default Bottom Dollar Tree Service Daniel Antrobus died

Have a read of this, the guy cuts his leg bad but wants to finish the job. I would say the blood loss was too much, crikey!

Tree trimmer dies after chainsaw injury - Florida AP - MiamiHerald.com

Quote:
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A tree trimmer who injured himself with a chainsaw in New Port Richey died after refusing to come down for medical attention.

The Pasco Sheriff's Office reports that 48-year-old Daniel Antrobus was about 40 feet up in a pine tree Friday evening when he accidentally gashed his right leg, exposing the bone. Other workers told Antrobus, a co-owner of the Bottom Dollar Tree Service, to come down and stop the bleeding, but Antrobus said he wanted to finish cutting the tree limbs.

Pasco Fire Rescue officials say Antrobus was conscious and alert when rescuers first arrived but fell unconscious when paramedics were bringing him down a half hour later.

Antrobus was taken by helicopter to a St. Petersburg hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

sounds like a bad case of shock and denial, you never realise just how bad an injury is til you get to medical workers, adrenaline numbs the pain and if its deep he could have cut a major nerve. we all have egos to some extent but if your injured you should get out of the tree and get it looked at straight away im talking from experience thats what happened when i had my accident last feb thought i was ok but had split my kneecap in half.
all the best to his family and loved ones a sad case that could have been avoided.

I remember once crushing a thumb pretty badly (full Violet Crumble on the bone!), ripping the nail bed out and crushing the nerves. As soon as the accident happened, my emergency services training kicked in, I started first aid etc. and made my way to help. Then the shock kicked in.

Now I'd seen the thumb 5mm thick when I pulled it out of the machine... but once the shock kicked in I was telling the radiologist that wasn't broken! She just showed me the x-rays and watched me trying to count the bone fragments.

I've been injured in work accidents a few times (not for some years now praise God) and can handle pain pretty well, but I've also had to learn to recognise when I'm going into shock and severe pain with blood loss will do that pretty quickly. When in shock you just don't see things clearly. I reckon that's what killed this guy. Went into shock quick and couldn't see how bad things really were.

R.I.P - this could happen to any of us , at any time ! maybe we should have a list of fellow workers who didnt make it home ? what we do is extremely dangerous , it,s only 1 wrong cut away . My condolences

Sayonara Daniel Antrobus!
It is an ongoing reminder for us all,
not to take what we do for granted!
Always work with someone on hand if you can, if not,
keep that Mobile handy for an Emergency call!
Just incase.
