On the first of september the man from who introduced me to the arborist work died while pruning a wheeping willow. He was 63 but still a good climber. He was killed by his own flipline. The branch he cut split up to his flipline. He tried to cut himself lose but the chain came of his saw. Don`t know why he cut the branch this way. no undercut. He had more than 35 years of climbing experience His grandson stood on the ground and watched him die. No second climber, so no one to go save him. They had to wait untill the fire deparment came with a laddertruck. Omroep Gelderland - Nieuws - nieuwsartikel - Man overleden tijdens snoeien boom |

My condolsenses to the family, I hope the grandson gets help. Why does it seem like the most experienced seem to be dying? |

Hopefully you are able to talk to the grandson, and make him feel that his grandfather's life was important, and to celebrate the life lost, to honour the life. An unfortunate mistake was made, the tree was unpredictable, and he lost his life. But the grandson's memory of his grandfather should be strengthened -- and if he trained you, you might be able to help him recover successfully from the loss. I am sorry the man lost his life in such a tragic way, but at least he was doing a job he loved. My condolences to the grandson, and to the family left behind,

Yes a steel core flipline, after his chainsaw failed, he tried to free himself with his handsaw but he passed out. I wonder if he would have managed to free himself with his handsaw. I hesitated to start this thread, but I think if someone see this and the next day he takes this with him when he goes climbing, reminded of the dangers we face every day. He might be a bit more careful and go home save when the job is done. Be sharp and think. Don't let experience take over from logic thinking. |
