Quote:
EMS personnel take a worker with Denton's Tree Service to an ambulance after a 70-ton construction crane collapsed onto a house at 1215 Oakwood Avenue on Thursday October 21, 2010. The worker was reportedly a tree climber working to cut down a large tree beside the home when the crane being used to remove the tree sections collapsed in his direction, forcing him to slide down or jump from the tree, resulting in non life threatening injuries.

A firefighter walks past the wreckage of a 70-ton construction crane that fell onto a house at 1215 Oakwood Avenue on Thursday October 21, 2010. Crews contracted through Denton's Tree Service were using the 140 foot boom to remove a large tree on the side of the home when the crane tipped over and fell onto the house.

But the injured climber who bailed out is OK.

these accidents keep happening all around the world. Same mistakes.
Crane to small, arborist with not enough experience or it's almost time to go home let's take this last piece in one go.
I'm glad to hear that the arborist will be oke.
Never save costs on the crane (better to big) and get a craneoperator who likes working with trees. Most of them hate it because they neve know the weight of the lift exactly. Estimate the weight and add at least 50%. If this is more than the cranecapacity your in the dangerzone.

Galbee is right it looks like the rigger wasn't completly out because the the crane was too close to the house.

the further your radius the lower your capacity, it was probably the heaviest pick of the day and the stabilizers only partway out, duh
