The dried leaves are very good for chewing. They seem to regenerate something.

Hmm, It could be Cordyline australis or some form of Yucca? Where is it located? Are the leaves spiny?

No it's not those. I looked it up. It's leaves are spiny, as in it keeps it's leaves, but not as in a stem. Some kind of palm tree?

The top of the tree is spherical, with the leaves, instead of branches of palm leaves.

Well this one has appendage branches that each have their own palm tree head.

I agree with Ekka - Yucca rostrata. Lots of Yucca species have multiple branches and "heads", like the one in this pic: http://www.pricklypalace.com/POfMont...0rostrataA.jpg
